Egg Harbor Township High School
Week of September 10, 2023
A MESSAGE FROM OUR PRINCIPAL
Greetings!
As the second week of school comes to an end, our students have finally mastered their schedules, claimed their stakes at the lunch tables and are getting involved in the extra curricular activities EHTHS has to offer.
On Tuesday, the 2023 Communicative and Adaptive Surf Trip was an eventful experience this year with a ton of fun had by the students and staff. It was all thanks to a team effort from the staff, Longport Beach Patrol, and even some student helpers who came along. Our students were once again provided with the unique opportunity to surf in Longport. They had perfect weather with a warm ocean which allowed for everyone to either get in the water or cheer on their classmates. Helping some of the students ride their first wave is an extremely rewarding experience. We would like to give a special shout out to all the staff who went above and beyond to make this possible. First off thank you to Mr. Ryan Platt who used swift action and his safety experience to aid a student in need. Thank you to Ray Leak, Ryan Platt, Bailey Hurst, and Zach Calhoun for going in the water and surfing with the kids. Thank you to Andrew Baumgartel (Alder and LPBP) and Carolyn Nagle (Miller and LPBP) for setting up the event ahead of time on the beach and getting some unbelievable footage and pictures throughout the day. Thank you to some of our seniors Charlie Seivard and Will Nguyen (who are also Longport lifeguards) who came along as helpers and got in the water with kids for surf and safety help. Thank you to Ms. Jenn Biddick, Dr. Jillian Clayton, Mrs. Angela Sharbaugh-Hunt, Mrs. Donna Freund and every other administrator involved in making this day possible. Josh Lees, Kris Henderson, and Leslie Butts for helping to set up our nurses and buses needed. Of course, thank you to all the staff in Mrs. Ormond’s, Mrs. James’s, Ms. Maira’s and Mrs. Borman’s class for working with the kids to provide them a fun experience throughout. Finally, a huge thank you goes to the Longport Beach Patrol for providing hospitality, the surfboards, and the safety throughout the event. The safety plan and effort by our team truly came into action this year. We couldn’t have provided the students with such a fun experience without this group effort, and I can’t thank everyone enough. Let’s hope the good weather stays with us for a while and the kids are ready for next year!
Next week, ticket sales will begin for our 80’s themed Homecoming Dance. Tickets are $10 each and sales will be held in the café during lunches. Seniors can purchase tickets on 9/18 and 9/19. Junior ticket sales will be held on 9/20 and 9/21, sophomores and freshmen sales will be held on 9/22. Tickets will be sold on a first come, first serve basis. Mr. Bell and Student Council have been working diligently to make sure the students will have a totally rad night.

Finally, EHTHS is excited to welcome parents and guardians to Back to School Night on Thursday, September 21. Representatives from ACCC and Stockton will be present in the Commons Area for those interested in learning more about their programs. The Teen Center and AtlantiCare School Specialist will also be available to parents seeking information about their programs. STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT
Upstanders of the Week
UPSTANDER OF THE WEEK: Angel Mendoza
NOMINATING TEACHER: Karen Ninfa
A new student walked in to my class about 10 minutes after the bell. He was was clearly confused, a little nervous and he spoke NO English at all. I was having difficulty communicating with him and Angel came over, spoke to the boy in Spanish and helped him find his schedule and take him to where he needed to be. It was a very kind effort on the part of Angel, not only did he help him, he made him feel more comfortable.

#DAY 1
The High School will be continuing with this bullying-prevention program for this school year!
#DAY1--a staff and student-led philosophy that will serve to foster a building-wide atmosphere of kindness and inclusion.
This program was started a few years ago in Bergen County by the Tyler Clementi Foundation and has gained momentum throughout the state and country for use in schools, community groups, workplaces, and sports teams.
The premise is simple: the adults in the building make a “declaration statement” about behavior that is expected, as well as behavior that is unacceptable, and we all pledge to conduct ourselves accordingly. This includes seeking help when we witness unacceptable behavior occurring.
This notion is called being an #Upstander
Has your student taken their #Upstander Pledge yet?!?
Have them sign into their school account and click here! 😊
