Principal's Message
Hello Springwater Students and Families,
As strange as it may feel, Springwater and the Gresham-Barlow School District DO have school next week: all students have school on Monday, December 19th and Tuesday, December 20th. Winter break begins on Wednesday, December 21st.
Tonight is our winter dance! Student leadership has been busy planning the festivities and a dance is the perfect way to celebrate the upcoming break. In addition to planning the winter dance, leadership has also been organizing our December food drive. Thank you to all the students and families who donated items for Springwater families in need this holiday season!
Winter break runs from Wednesday, December 21st through Tuesday, January 3rd. We look forward to welcoming all students back in 2023 on Wednesday, January 4th! I hope everyone has a safe and restful holiday break. As we all navigate the ups and downs of the holiday season, please remember to be patient with yourself and those around you. Take care and reach out with concerns or questions!

December Spotlight Students
Karen Garcia-Aviles
Future Plans After High School: I don’t really know. I think just travel for a little bit and write a bit about where I’ve been. I want to go to Thailand.
Grade: 9
Interests: Reading and writing
Favorite subject in school: English. Because of the reading and writing.
Favorite thing about STHS: My friends and the community
Alex Ortiz
Future Plans After High School: I want to try to get into a professional soccer team
Grade: 10
Interests: I like playing different kinds of sports and activities. Soccer is my favorite.
Favorite subject in school: Biology, because I like learning about new things and about science.
Favorite thing about STHS: There’s a lot of nice people here and there’s not a lot of people, like at Gresham.
Ash Manley-Meyers
Future Plans After High School: I have an idea of what I want to do, but it’s not set in stone yet because I haven’t found the proper college to go to. I want to go to school to be either a forensic scientist or to become a mortician’s assistant. I haven’t decided yet.
Grade: 11
Interests: I like taking things apart and putting them back together, like figuring out how things work on the inside. I play video games a lot. At the moment, my favorite is Metroid Prime for the GameCube.
Favorite subject in school: Does lunch count? But an actual class, I like Veida’s Environmental Science class. It’s pretty fun.
Favorite thing about STHS: It’s a small community. It’s much more enjoyable than bigger schools, from experience.
STHS Counselor Erin Norden
Springwater has an extremely special place in my heart already. This small community that is dedicated to students and the success of everyone who walks through our door means a lot, especially after experiencing the isolation that came with the peak of the pandemic. I am ready to be there for you and your students in this new role. Please reach out with any questions, concerns, and inquiries. I am always available to meet in-person, virtually, through the telephone or via email.

Springwater Attendance
If your son/daughter is going to be out for the day please call the office (503-261-4600) and let us know the reason why. Whenever the office is not notified of an absence, a call is made home via the automated calling system. If the student is going to be out more than three days, you can call the office or email your student's teachers with a request for homework. If your student is going to be out of school for extended period of time due to a vacation or some other event, please have him/her complete a Pre-arranged Absence Form. If your student needs to leave school early or arrive late due to appointments, please call the office or send a note to excuse their absence.
Electronic Flyers
Gresham-Barlow Distict has launched a new electronic flyer tool called “Peachjar.” This service allows us to “go green” and will ensure that every flier is delivered to each household. Peachjar will provide flyers directly to your computer, tablet or mobile device.
To view school-approved flyers, simply click the Peachjar button on your school’s website.
