NEWS FROM MRS. HAZARD, PRINCIPAL
Welcome Back!!!
Hello Saxtons River Elementary School Families,
I hope your summer has been filled with joy!
The first day of school is Wednesday, August 31st!
- Students in grades 1-4 will begin the school year with a full day of learning while our K students will begin the school year with three half days (August 31st-September 2nd; 11:45am dismissal).
As most families know, SRES has an amazing staff whose mission is to “grow and inspire a community of kind, confident and respectful citizens. We strive to provide a positive environment, foster healthy relationships, and meet the needs of the whole child. We encourage creativity and aspire to instill a joy of lifelong learning in our students.” I assure you, your children are in talented and caring hands!
We will have a Meet and Greet Family Engagement Event on Monday, August 29th from 4-5pm; we hope you can join us. During this time, the building will be open for families to meet staff and explore spaces. You are welcome to visit anytime between 4-5pm; feel free to stay for 5 minutes or for the full hour. We are excited to welcome you into our building and learning community, and we look forward to many more opportunities to do so throughout the year!
COVID and other updates:
WNESU Return to School COVID-19 Information and Superintendent Andy Haas’ Welcome Back Letter
Health-related COVID questions: Please contact Jennifer Vaughan, our school nurse, at jennifer.vaughan@wnesu.com or (802) 869-2637.
AM arrival: All students should enter the front of the building and report directly to their classrooms. Arrival is between 8:00-8:15. Our school day begins at 8:20. Breakfast (free of charge!) is “grab and go” and will be enjoyed in classrooms prior to the start of the school day. If you bring your student to school and they wish to have breakfast, please be sure to drop them off before 8:15; thank you!
Lunch: Students will enjoy lunch in the cafeteria. Lunch, too, is free of charge this year! K-2 will have lunch from 11:40-12:10, and 3-4 will have lunch from 12:10-12:40.
Water bottle and healthy snack: Please send in a water bottle and healthy snack each day.
School supplies: SRES provides students with what they need to learn. Please do send in a backpack (if you need one, let us know!).
Dismissal: Dismissal is at 3pm. Students riding the bus or walking home will meet at the front of the school while family pickup (vehicles only) will be at the back of the school. If you are picking up at the back of the school, please pull up to the cones so that we can dismiss students quickly and efficiently, and please do not go around cars that are loading as it creates a safety hazard.
We will assume your child’s pathway home is either the same as it was last year or for new families, what you recently provided. If you have an update or would like to confirm, please call the school before Wednesday, August 31st.
After School Program: Our A/S program will begin on September 12th for students in grades 1-4 and in January for students in kindergarten. More information, including online registration, will be shared soon.

Also, please be sure to check your child’s folder on Wednesday as there will be important forms to update/complete and return on Thursday.
Lastly, consistent communication plays a key role in student learning; please know we welcome your questions, and your thoughts and ideas are valued.
I know we are going to have a fantastic year together! We hope to see you at our Meet and Greet Family Engagement Event on Monday, August 29th from 4-5pm!
