Student on the Spotlight
Tymur is a 7th-grade student at Hudson Academy.
He came from Ukraine in September of 2022. Fortunately, Tymur Muliavka came to the US with some knowledge of the English language and he didn't waste any time! He started giving his best in every course and steadily continued to increase his language and academic skills.
Tymur is meeting standards in Math and is very close to achieving those for reading according to the FAST State assessment.
He describes how, even with some English knowledge, at the beginning things were difficult. He didn't feel completely lost, but the academic content and increasing his vocabulary required some time, patience, and constant effort.
He also shared how all his teachers were very helpful, checking on him and even providing some key information in his language. His ESOL instructional assistant, who offers him support in some classes describes him as a dedicated and hard-worker student.
Tymur expressed liking his current school and if he could share a word of advice with newly arrived students he would tell them "not to worry".
The ESOL program is very proud of Tymur and his accomplishments. We know his dedication will take him far!
November is the month of giving Thanks!
Gratitude is a deep appreciation for something or someone and may be the key to happiness, well-being, and mental strength. Research shows that practicing gratitude for as little as 5 minutes can alter activity in brain regions associated with emotion and motivation.
Practicing gratitude makes the simple switch from counting burdens to counting blessings, which can promote a positive mindset while reducing stress– something we can all use.
A gratitude appreciation practice can be as simple as mentally listing things you are grateful for, or you can keep a gratitude journal if writing is more your style. Try this 30-day Gratitude Challenge with new gratitude journal prompts for each day.
By the end of the 30-day challenge, counting your blessings instead of your burdens will be much easier.

Hudson Community Health Resource Center Officially Opened
The Hudson Community Health Resource Center (HCHRC) has officially opened its doors to Pasco County students and the community. Collaborating with several community partners, the facility offers free medical, mental health, and dental services. It also provides a food bank, clothing bank, and access to computers and printers. These services are dedicated to local residents but are free to all visitors, with no eligibility requirements. The only information collected includes names, zip codes, family size, and the number of children in each household.
HCHRC is situated on the Hudson High School campus and is accessible to students, and those from the nearby Hudson Academy and Hudson Primary Academy areas. Members of the public are also welcome to access the food and clothing banks, as well as the internet resource room. However, medical services are currently only available for students.
Community partners such as Premier Healthcare, Feeding Tampa Bay, Metropolitan Ministries, Neighbor Hope Project, Molina Healthcare, and St. Leo University have joined forces to provide residents with the tools they need to address the root causes of poverty.
