Please note that we have reviewed second semester reminders of our '23-'24 Student Handbook this week to ensure students remember our Grizzly PRIDE expectations (last two pages) for behavior throughout our building. Specifically, note that students are not to have cell phones seen or heard during the instructional day as we want this space to be focused on high quality instruction. Any cell phone seen in the hallways, restrooms, or classrooms is subject to the policy which requires it be taken to the main office and picked up by a parent for a $15 fee. Should the cell phone policy be violated repeatedly, the student could be asked not to bring it to school or kept with an administrator throughout the school day. Our campus cell phone policy fully aligns with the Houston ISD cell phone policy as noted in the '23-'24 Houston ISD Code of Conduct (pg. 17).

➕ Mathia Wednesdays
West Briar is beginning MATHIA WEDNESDAYS during Advocacy class. Each Wednesday all students will be working on their Mathia work as assigned by their Math Teacher.
Mathia is a digital software that provides a powerful 1-to-1 tutoring technology from Carnegie Learning's Texas Math Solutions that is available 24/7 to help your student. Mathia was built from cognitive science research and looks at every aspect of the student's work to better understand where they are and what they're thinking. It doesn't just tell students what they got wrong, it helps them understand why they got it wrong. Your student has a completely personalized experience, tailored specifically to their needs.
When assisting with your student's homework, you can further support your student's learning by asking questions about the work they do. Here are some helpful questions to ask:
- How does this problem look like something you’ve done with your teacher or classmates?
- Can you show me the strategy you used to solve this problem? Do you know another way to solve it?
- Does your answer make sense? Why?
- Is there anything you don’t understand? How can you use your notes and work from class to help?
West Briar's Life Skills classes are pairing with Special Olympics Unified Champion Schools to help West Briar develop an atmosphere of acceptance and inclusion. Through sports, the Unified Champion Schools incorporate Unified Sports to create whole-school engagement. This Friday is our first event- the 🏀 West Briar Unified Basketball Game. Our Life Skills students will pair with our West Briar basketball players for a unified basketball game. All are welcome to attend and admission is free.
