NEWS FROM THE EAGLE'S NEST
February 23, 2024
Hello EXE families,
For a short week, we sure did pack a lot in! Our students and teachers were collaborating and learning up until the last minute of the day here today!
We hope that our Fifth Grade families were able to login for the Middle School 101 this past week. We thank Fugett's principal, Steve Werner and his administrative staff for laying out what's ahead for our students and their families.
I met with the Executive Board of our PTO today as planning for their Spring Fair is well underway. We hope to see all of our EXE families on March 9 from 4:00 - 7:00 PM at the fair. Mark your calendars and check out the flyer below for more details.
In addition to Spring Fair planning, our PTO will be looking for volunteers to support different events in the upcoming year. Volunteering for committees may seem out of your comfort zone, I can tell you all PTO members are happy to help you with the details. We would love to see all of our families involved! We have a wonderful community school here that is enriched by the help and support of our PTO members. Please consider joining and supporting next year.
As always, thank you for sharing your children with us! We look forward to seeing all of our students back on Monday.
With EXE pride,
Mrs. B
From our Physical Ed Teacher, Mrs. Keown...
We are excited to share that our annual 4th and 5th District-Wide Track Meet will be held this May. Our students will enjoy a day at the WCU track in a friendly competition against other WCASD elementary schools. WE WILL NEED YOUR HELP!!! The success of the track meet rests heavily on the parent volunteers. YOU WILL NEED YOUR CLEARANCES. You can visit this link on the district website for information about obtaining your clearances. We suggest you put in for your clearances now as they do sometimes take a bit of time to receive them back.
Save the Date (May 15 with a rain date of May 17) to attend as a parent volunteer. More information will come with specific times.
PickUp Patrol
Parents/guardians must enter their child's plan to participate in an after-school event using PickUp Patrol. This is required because your child's dismissal plan is different from their normal plan and ensures that all EXE staff members know your child's plan at the end of the school day. If the club meets on a weekly basis, logging your child's plan is necessary each day that he or she will be participating in the after-school event. If you have any questions, please reach out to Kirsten Yantis, EXE's Attendance Secretary, at kyantis@wcasd.net
February is Black History Month. Black History Month grew out of Carter G. Woodson's idea to celebrate achievements of Black Americans. If you are looking to learn more, check out Dr. Woodson's biography on PebbleGo. Students have the opportunity at EXE to check out other famous Black Americans featured on one of our bulletin boards.
Books and Bundt Cake
Love reading books? Love cake? And who doesn't love reading books and eating cake? A local store, Nothing but Bundt is offering our readers a bundt cake for reading 400 minutes! Check out the information linked here to participate!

From the Nurse
Hello from the Health Room!
Please refer to the notes below from Mrs. Ruppert regarding when to keep your child home if they aren't feeling well.
Absence Note Information
Thank you to all of our EXE families who have registered for Pick-Up Patrol and already began using it this school year. Pick-Up Patrol (PUP) should be used for all dismissal plans and changes. Absences must be reported by 9:30 a.m., either through PUP OR through the Safe Arrival Line. When PUP was initially rolled out, there was an understanding that it could be used in lieu of submitting an excuse form. We have learned that is not the case.
Complete Excuse forms (linked here and below) including your child’s name, date, and reason for absence, are to be turned in by the student within three (3) days, after his/her return from an absence. The absence of a complete excuse form within this time period (3 days) will automatically be unexcused and/or unlawful and the school laws of Pennsylvania shall be applied. Excuse notes via email from a registered email address in PowerSchool will be accepted without an original signature. (Per District Attendance Guidelines Code 204AG1)
Excuse forms need to be kept on file in accordance with district and state policy. Absence notes through PUP do not meet district and state policy.
Safe Arrival phone line at 484-266-1410, is still available to report your child’s absence.
