We hope everyone is enjoying their summer and this beautiful weather! We just wanted to send along updates on upcoming events and important dates regarding the 2022-23 School Year.

Teacher Assisgnments

Teacher assignments will be shared through ParentSquare by August 15th. If there are any delays we will send out information to you.

First Day of School Dates

  • The first day of school for grades 1-5 will be August 30th.
  • The first day of school for Pre-K and Kindergarten will be September 6th.


Arrival Time:


  • Early Drop-Off is between 7:15 -7:30am
  • Regular Arrival is between 7:30 - 7:40am
  • Instruction Begins at 7:45am


Dismissal Time:


  • Pre-K - 1:40pm
  • Grades K-5 - 1:50pm

Bates Open House - 9/14/22

We will be hosting our Open House on Wednesday, September 14th from 5:30-7PM.


All are welcome!

Bates Community Park Meet-Up

On August 29th from 8am to 9:30am the Bates Elementary School will be hosting park meet-ups across the city of Salem. The goal is to connect all of our families with other Bates families in their neighborhood. Bates staff will be attending all the parks during this time. There will be resources and activities for families. We will be heading to 5 parks in the city. More details will follow!

We will be having a meeting August 15th at Bates at 2:30PM. See you there!

Parent/Teacher Equity Group

We are looking for staff members who would like to participate on our Equity Team with Bates Staff this upcoming school year. We have a small team with parents that represent the demographics of our students, but we would like to expand. We meet once a month for 45-60 mins. We are currently working on our enhancing our family engagement strategies. We are planning a Bates Park Meet-Up at all the different Parks in Salem, so families do not have to leave their neighborhood to meet and connect with our Bates' families. If you are interested please email me at gsoftic@salemk12.org. Next meeting August 15th at 2:30 @ Bates Library.

Transportation Registration

If you have not done so already, Parents and guardians can apply online through ParentSquare using the form below or print the application form here and return it to the transportation office.

A reminder that ParentSquare is the district platform for communication. You will receive communication from the district, your school, and your student's classroom all in one space. You can communicate 1-to-1 with teachers, sign up for parent-teacher conferences, and more.
