Message from the Principal
Happy Friday Findley Families,
Thank you to those of you who were able to make it out last night to our PTO meeting. We hosted Steve Sparks, Executive Administrator for Long Range Planning for BSD. He answered several of our community’s questions about the boundary process. It was informative and your PTO board did an exceptional job of moderating and facilitating.
Beaverton School District has developed our DRAFT plan for the funding coming to us next year via the Student Investment Account (SIA). Since the passage of the Student Success Act last year, we have been working on developing the plan to meet the needs of the district and the broader goals of the additional funding which include; increasing instructional time, addressing student health and safety needs, increasing adults/decreasing class size, and expanding well-rounded learning opportunities.
Currently, BSD is seeking input from the community on the plan. You can view and provide feedback on the plan here. The window for providing feedback closes Monday. Final plans are due to the state no later than April 15, 2020.
Today, we are celebrating International Mother Language Day. As a school community, we are learning about proverbs. Proverbs are small packages of truth about a people’s values and beliefs. Every culture (every family) has proverbs (sometimes also called clichés, idioms, or sayings) that are unique to it. What is one of yours? Today, your child(ren) will be bringing home a flyer with information about this, and a little extra homework for families. On the back of the flyer, please help your child write an expression in your home language (and translated if needed to English). The meaning and an illustration should also be included. Thank you for helping us grow our knowledge of international proverbs, figurative language and idioms.
As usual, the lunch provided to our staff today from our parent community was AMAZING! You spoil us. Thank you so much for treating us to so much deliciousness!
Thank you for all you do,
Sherry Marsh, Ed.D
Principal

We hope you’ll be able to join us for one of both of our last two sessions for the year. Enjoy coffee and tasty treats while gaining knowledge to support your child’s learning.

COUNTY HEALTH UPDATE REGARDING CORONAVIRUS
According to the assessment tool from the cdc, we have no identifiable risk (since we do not have any students who have the virus). Even if we did have a student with the virus, we would be "low risk".

Meet our Team!
1st Grade
Let's meet our Outstanding 1st grade teacher!
Kristin Antich: What is the best part of teaching at Findley? The community! In my 3 years at Findley I have enjoyed getting to know my students and their families. This year I'm excited that I have 3 siblings of prior students. The Findley community is very supportive in and outside of the classroom.
Lisa Arcangel: What other grades do you like to teach? 2nd Grade & Kindergarten
Miranda Johnson: Have you always taught at Findley? Yes, this is my 14th year at Findley. I taught 2nd grade for 6 years, Spanish for 5 years and this is my 3rd year in 1st grade.
Candice Stroeve: What is your favorite assembly? My favorite assembly is the first one of each school year. I think it is so fun to see each team of teachers dressed up and dancing!

Findley Book Fair is coming February 28th!
GREAT BOOKS and PRIZES!!
The Spring 2020 Scholastic Book Fair is coming to Findley! This year's Jungle themed book fair will be Feb 28 - March 5. It will be held in a new location, Room 201, with ample space to showcase the hundreds of fun, engaging, and affordable books for your family to discover. Please support our book fair as proceeds from the fair benefit Findley.
This year, we will offer the eWallet digital payment option. This convenient cashless option allows parents to set up an account through Scholastic with a credit card. Parents set a spending limit for their child(ren) for use at the book fair, and unused funds are released back to the credit card at the end of the fair. To encourage participation in the eWallet option, every student who has an account will have their name entered into drawings for great prizes (books and posters).
Use this link to visit our homepage filled with great information including an interactive book flyer, book fair schedule, online shopping, and a link to sign up for eWallet. https://www.scholastic.com/bf/findleyelementaryschool

Mark Your Calendar!!! Findley Science Fair is March 11th
We Need Exhibitors from Intel and Nike!!!
Work at Intel? We would love to have a fab bunny suit from Intel. This exhibitor table is always one of the students favorite.
Work at Nike? We are looking for a Nike parent who can bring different types of Nike shoe soles for an exhibitor table. We are not asking for technology that's still in wraps, anything that is already out in the market would be fine!
Science Fair committee can arrange for volunteers to help out these parents at their respective tables!!
Please email – mitra.poulami@gmail.com with any exhibitor information.
