February is Black History Month
Black History Month is a month of celebrating the joys of black culture, highlighting the impact of important people and events that have influenced American history for the greater. The month of February is a time to uplift the voices and stories of Black Americans and their significance in shaping our Nation's path.
Did you know that...
Black History Month started as a Black History WEEK! In 1915, Carter Woodson, the father of Black History, led this initiative. It wasn't until almost 50 decades later in 1960 when Black History became a month-long celebration.
February was chosen for a reason. The month was selected to coincide with the birthdays of Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass.
Since Black culture, stories, and contributions were not always acknowledged or taught in schools or in other places, it was important for there to be a month dedicated to teaching, honoring, and learning about Black history. Still, there is a desire and need for curriculum writers, authors, and all spaces in education to uplift Black voices in representative, accurate ways.
Black history is American history. The goal is to highlight its importance this month, but to teach and learn about Black history all year long.

Considerations for Valentines day
Valentine's Day is anticipated by some, but can be uneventful, causing others to be apprehensive, or cause feelings of exclusion.
Valentine's Day often promotes heteronormative, cis-gendered love stories through the use of cards, books, and other mediums.
Valentine's Day can make some feel excluded, particularly people who are single, widowed, (dis)abled, divorced, members of the LGBTQ+ community, or other communities.
How can we use Valentine's Day as an opportunity to celebrate love and humanity for all?
