Changes to Winter break schedule

• The first week of winter break 12/18-12/22 has been converted to school days. If you already had plans for that week, and will not be able to send your child, please reach out to Sara Gilds in the office to let us know. sgilds@pps.net

Please call our attendance line at 503-916-6275 or email Sara at sgilds@pps.net if your child is missing school with the reason they are out. If there are multiple unexcused absences it is a district wide protocol that a teacher or member of our team will reach out to see how we can best support with getting your child to school. We know it can be hard and we are here to problem solve and support you and your family!

Conferences have been rescheduled. They'll be held from 3-7PM on January 11, 16 and 17th. Your student's teacher will be reaching out soon to schedule with you.

Peninsula is partnering with Urban Forestry and Portland Parks and Recreation on a tree planting event on 1/31. 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students will be planting 17 of our 29 new Field trees. If you would like to volunteer during this event, here's the information you need:

-Volunteers will need to be available from 9am-12pm on Wednesday January 31st.

-Volunteers must be willing to lead or co-lead for a group of 6 elementary school students.

-Volunteers will get trained and then facilitate the student group to plant, mulch, and stake a tree!

The end of 2023 is just around the corner, which means we are moving closer to Immunization Exclusion Day on February 21st. Oregon Law requires specific immunizations in order for students to continue attending school after this date. If your child is needing any immunizations, you should have received a letter in November stating which immunizations are currently needed. Over the next few weeks, you will also be receiving information sent home with your student, and we will be reaching out to you through phone calls and emails. It is a great time to schedule appointments for your child to get immunizations up-to-date, or if you are requesting an exemption, you will need to complete the exemption process. Hello Panther Family!

For those who are interested in participating in SUN School for the winter term, please find the link below! IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Due to growing conditions, our citrus won't be ready on the original date. The hot summer months were great for building the natural sugar content in the citrus; but with the hotter temps extending into late fall, the acidic content is still high as cooler temperatures are needed to bring out the sweetness. Our new order deadline is 12/13/23 with a pickup day of either January 4th or 5th (more details on that coming soon) Sorry for any inconvenience but it means there's still plenty of time to purchase! Order yours today on our website!

As the season changes from Fall to Winter, so does our Carnival plan. The show WILL go on and we will let you know the details as soon as possible. We have a small but mighty crew working behind the scenes of the big top and realize how difficult it is to commit to volunteer for an event with an unknown date. However, if you are able to purchase from the Carnival Wishlist, it would be much appreciated.

Hi Panther Families,

Did you know that over 1/3 of our Peninsula Panthers are food insecure? Or that our school has a rising poverty rate? Below you will find a link to a fund established to serve the school community, the Panther Family Resilience fund. School staff will use this fund to support students and their families when there is a gap in resources or immediate need. Funds will be used to purchase things like grocery cards, bus fare, emergency home goods and other essentials. If you are able please consider making a small donation to the fund.
