Hope everyone had a restful winter break and you are all ready and excited to continue your educational journey.

This week...

• All students will be participating in Achieve3000 Lexile Level Set testing during Power Hour
• Students who are English Language Learners are participating in ELPAC ICA testing
• SGA is hosting a Fraps & Cookies Fund Raiser on Friday
• We are prepping everything for our 2023-2024 school year Semester 1 Academic Achievement Awards, so be on the look out for invites coming soon.
• Last but not least we are kicking off the January Attendance Challenges this week 😊

Achieve3000 Level set testing starts this Monday.

Please Note:

• All testing starts on Monday, January 8th

• Testing is happening in all Power Hour classes

• Level Set testing allows us to see your students growth from the beginning of the school year till today; This also allows us to evaluate the teacher strategies and supports that are best suited to meet your students needs

• Lexile is a measure of both reading ability and text complexity of reading materials (comprehension)

ELPAC ICA testing starts this Monday, January 8 and continues till Tuesday, January 23rd.

Please Note:

• Testing is only for English Language Learners
• Most students are being tested in their ELD classes
• Students are asked to try their best, as this test is a big indicator on how students will perform in the real ELPAC and if reclassification is possible.

The After School Survey continues during second semester and should ...

• be completed by students during Power Hour
• be completed by students accurately - if a student does not complete the survey = they can not stay after school

Please note that this is implemented in order to address several concerns such as ...

Student safety – In order to make sure all students are being monitored by an adult and are accounted for in case of an after-school lockdown or any other emergency, we need to know what adult is responsible for any given group of students.

Limit student wandering – We have several students who stay after school but are jumping from section to section, or simply roaming around, thus not using the time productively and causing a disruption to several programs; The attendance sheets would allow us to ban students who are simply wasting time after school from participating in after school activities, as we do not have the staff capacity to babysit.

Transportation – We need to collect attendance data in order to make sure we have an accurate number of busses for the after-school programs; Last Thursday we had too many students for one bus, thus having an accurate head count would allow us to plan accordingly.

Friday, January 19 we will be inviting families to celebrate with us, as we honor student achievement during semester 1 of the 2023-2024 school year. Additional details will be provided in the next newsletter.

Parents of students who are receiving an award will be notified both via personal call from the office and a printed invitation this Friday.

• Remember there is no school on Monday, January 15 therefore Tuesday, January 16 is a Stack day schedule.
• On 1/26/2024 - we will be inviting all families to join us for a tour of the South Gate facility which will be our new home during the 2024-2025 school year; Tours will be hosted at both 10am and 5pm, please mark your calendar as we would love all families to join us.
