Where Excellence is the Tradition
Having health insurance is critical for our children to thrive at school. There are free and low-cost health coverage options available through Medicaid and Hawki which include coverage for medical, dental, immunizations, prescriptions, mental health services and more. You can have a regular doctor for your child and be protected from unexpected accidents and illness. Many working families qualify; children and teens in a family of 4 earning up to $80,030 may qualify for Hawki. And don’t forget, if your child is already enrolled in these programs, it’s important to renew their coverage every year so they can get the care they need when they need it. The Visiting Nurse Association (VNA) can assist with in-person application assistance for families with children through presumptive eligibility. You may contact your local Hawki Outreach Coordinator at 563-556-6200 or for more information go to https://dhs.iowa.gov/hawki or call 1-800-257-8563.

Ancient Egypt
While studying Ancient Egypt, the 6th grade completed various activities and projects to learn more about the history and culture of the ancient country. Some students in Mrs. Smith's class shared the information they learned from books they read about Egypt and some built pyramids using various materials such as cardboard, metal, Legos, sugar cubes, wood, styrofoam, marshmallows, and Starbursts!
Students learned about mummification during the Ancient Egypt unit. They conducted an experiment to find out which preservative would be the best to “mummify” an apple. After two weeks, the tomb (closet) was opened and the mummified apples were unveiled. Students made observations about all of the different apples then compared their findings with the other 6th-grade class’s apples.
Thank you, GMH!
Get Well, Ms. Geuder
5th graders created posters for Ms. Geuder.
The Freedom Riders
Clayton Ridge fifth-graders enjoyed "The Freedom Riders" performance at the University of Dubuque Heritage Center and learned more about history of the Civil Rights movement.
Downtown Guttenberg Scavenger Hunt
Mrs. Eulberg’s Introduction to Business class completed a scavenger hunt in downtown Guttenberg. Students worked in groups to complete various tasks to learn about the goods and services offered at 17 local businesses. Students practiced communication skills and began networking with potential future employers. Each group sampled “the best pie this side of the river” at the Picket Fence Cafe, practiced yoga at Divine Current Wellness, found coordinating his and her outfits at Esser’s and Connie’s Apparel, learned about banking options at People’s State Bank, along with other fun and informative tasks throughout the afternoon. Businesses were thrilled to participate, and students found some local businesses they would like to visit again.
CRMS Writing Labs: Fractured Fairy Tales
The middle school writing lab class studied different variations of fairy tales and then wrote their own version of a fairytale of their choosing. This is called a “fractured fairytale”. The students had a lot of fun being creative and there were lots of laughs when reading their classmates' stories!
