CVUSD DEI Monthly Update
November 2022
We Believe
The Conejo Valley Unified School District strives to be a welcoming, supportive and inclusive learning environment for all students and families. We are committed to creating equitable access and opportunity across race, class, ethnicity, language, socio-economic status, ability, gender identity and religion.
School Spotlight! Walnut Elementary
Walnut is a little elementary school with a BIG heart, where every student is valued and encouraged to develop a lifelong love of learning says Principal Aileen Wall.
After visiting I can easily see the truth in this statement. Walnut Elementary received a 99% on their parent survey and here are a couple of the reasons why.
Ms. Randolph's 4th grade classroom
Here you see students walking around interacting with one another and using technology to understand instruction.
A classroom built with a strong sense of community and harmony.
Dance Class
Here you see students in dance class receiving instructions. These young people were happy and thriving in this environment
Ms. Randolph's 4th grade classroom
You can feel the comfort in this class and makes you think if I had a 4th grader, I would want my child her class
BRAVO Ms. Randolph, wonderful job!
EVERY MONTH IS BULLYING PREVENTION MONTH
November is National Native American Heritage Month
What started at the turn of the century as an effort to gain a day of recognition for the significant contributions the first Americans made to the establishment and growth of the U.S., has resulted in a whole month being designated for that purpose.
In 1990 President George H. W. Bush approved a joint resolution designating November 1990 “National American Indian Heritage Month.” Similar proclamations, under variants on the name (including “Native American Heritage Month” and “National American Indian and Alaska Native Heritage Month”) have been issued each year since 1994.

What's New
Currently the DEI department is working on a 5 year plan to promote diversity, equity and inclusion for the entire district. This plan is being developed using key stakeholder voices made up of parents, teachers, counselors, administration, and district personnel. This is a very important document, therefore we will be intentional about putting it together before releasing it to the public. Thank you for your patience in advance.
The Districts Advisory Councils are up and running and it has been an exciting start to the new year. If you have not done so, please contact your child's school and sign up for one of our wonderful Districts Advisory Councils. As a reminder, here are the groups available:
