As we continue to navigate these new and uncharted waters, we remain deeply invested in the process of learning, growing and meeting the needs of each individual child. The opportunities for growth this year have been countless...learning how to operate livestream cameras, learning how to implement new curriculum resources in every content area, learning how to engage learners who are both present in the classroom and "virtual" at home, learning how to input grades and information in a new school information system, learning how to manage a classroom in which collaborative learning must occur from a distance and, and, and....

We as a school are not alone in this growth curve that is happening in educational institutions around the globe. As I have spent time collaborating with educators and administrators in a myriad of settings I have learned that many have modified their schedules significantly in order to account for this growth. In some cases, the modifications have resulted in four day school weeks with each Friday left for teacher work and collaboration time. We are not going to that extreme and enjoy the consistency of a somewhat regular schedule with our students. However, in looking at the overall needs of our staff and our STRONG desire to provide a HIGH QUALITY education we have decided to make a slight change to our upcoming teacher work day. Instead of dismissing at noon on Friday, October 2nd we have decided that this will be a full day off for students. Instead, teachers will have a full work day in the building to plan, collaborate and engage in additional professional development activities that simply could not fit within the shortened time frame of a few afternoon hours. To draw an analogy it is a bit like halving sports team that only plays games and never has the opportunity to practice. Everyday is game day right now so we are VERY EXCITED for the opportunity to "practice" our craft.

Given the timing of this announcement we are planning to provide child care free of charge from 7:30 until noon on this day. Following the noon time frame any remaining students will fall into our regular BASK program. PLEASE use the SIGN-UP genius link below to sign-up for morning care, afternoon care or both. As noted on the sign-up we are asking ALL families to sign up by TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 29th so that we may staff accordingly.

years married? 17 years in March

Children/animals: 6 kids and a puppy

Step-daughter Celeste is a freshman at Meramec, Mary Kathleen is a Sophomore at Duchesne, Conway is in 8th at SCB, Karsten is in 5th at SCB, Frankie is in 2st at SCB and Hugo is almost 3. We added Raven, a black lab mix puppy at Christmas.

Who is your hero? My savior, Jesus.

Since I was a little girl I have always had an admiration for various women in my life- aunts, athletic trainers in college, employers, colleagues. These women helped shape me into who I am by being just the model I needed at the time.

If you could live anywhere, where would it be? Anywhere near family. It would be a bonus if my family lived where the weather was nice.

What is your favorite family vacation? To be honest, vacations to this point have been a bit stressful just given the logistics of the size of our family and the age range of the kids. We are looking forward to taking some upcoming trips 1:1 with each child. We were blessed to be able to "do Disney" and all that comes with that in 2015 courtesy of Make a Wish.

What is your favorite thing about being a teacher? I love growing in relationship with my students and keeping in touch even when they are no longer my student.

What is your proudest accomplishment? Leading my children to a relationship with Christ

What makes you laugh the most? Greg Beckemeier

If you could choose to do anything for a day, what would it be? Skip all chores without feeling like laundry, dishes, etc. would like up.

If money was no object, what would you do all day? Be a stay at home mom and get to go to storytime at the library with Hugo and out to lunch with friends and family. I would spend more time advocating for children with congenital heart defects and helping their families find resources.

If you could go back in time, what year would you travel to? 1996. I had just graduated high school, the U.S. was hosting the Olympics, and possibilities for the future seemed limitless.

What is the best gift you have ever been given? The gift of faith taught to me by my parents.

If you could share a meal with 4 people, living or dead who would they be?

My mom and dad and my grandmothers. My Grandma O'Leary was the best cook for family dinners. My dad always read the Bible at family gatherings. I hated it as a kid, but miss it now.

What is your favorite Holiday? Thanksgiving. All the people that matter and none of the inconsequential "stuff." I also love Easter.

What is the most daring thing you have ever done? White water rafting on the New River in W. Virginia maybe?

What is your favorite food? Anything I don't have to cook, honestly. I love spicy Mexican food.

Treat? Biking to Main Street for ice cream

Restaurant? Anything casual with outdoor seating.

Are you related or distantly related to anyone famous? I don't think so.

What is your family motto- spoken or unspoken? "Say what you mean and mean what you say." Words are important and we should choose them carefully.

If you had a warning label, what would it say? I can be loud and I wear my heart on my sleeve.

Who was your favorite teacher in school and why? I loved most of them, but my favorites were Mrs. Perkins (4th grade) and Mrs. Hood (5th). Mrs. Perkins was young and beautiful (Kate Middleton type of beauty). I idolized her. She helped me gain confidence and be a leader. Mrs. Hood was probably the oldest teacher in the building a looked grumpy to me as a younger student. When I saw my name outside her door on the first day I was devastated. She ended up being firm and fair and I had so much respect for her. She rewarded hard work with freedoms and created a strong sense of community. In 5th grade we were all friends. There were no outsiders. Everyone was valued, and she was the reason for that atmosphere. She didn't build you up just for the sake of it, she taught you how to earn that feeling of pride and sense of accomplishment.

What is your favorite family tradition? Putting the tree up and remembering each ornament's origin and the story behind it.

If you had to describe yourself as an animal, which one would it be? Perhaps one that can sense natural disasters! I can easily anticipate when something bad will happen and can visualize cause/effect scenarios. I guess it just goes with motherhood, but I seem to be the only one in my family that knows that a full glass of milk on the edge of the table will end up on the floor.

Our school is blessed with a wonderful faculty and staff that do so much for the sake of our children.

This year, they are facing even more challenges than usual. As a school family, one of the best ways that we can support them is by prayer. We are asking every school family to choose one day during the school year in which they will pray for our faculty and staff in a very particular and intentional way.

The goal is to have every school day covered between now and the end of the school year, so that our faculty and staff know that they are covered by our prayers every day as they serve our children. There can be more than one family on a date. Please help us with our goal of having every day filled. Our faculty and staff do so much, and this is a beautiful way for us to support them and show them our thanks.

With the dawn of Virtual Learning it has become much easier for students who are home to still "participate" in class. A few reminders related to this process ~

1. Your child may be able to join in class but depending on what materials they brought home with them may not be able to complete all of the work.

2. The links to participate in their classes can be found in their google classrooms. Students in higher grade levels i.e. 5th grade and up will be able to "join" in with a greater level of independence than some of our younger kiddos. In other words, most should know where to go and what to do :-)

3. Teachers are always happy and eager to help but may not be able to respond to an email first thing in the morning to walk through the process as they are preparing to start their school day. We may be able to help facilitate this process from the office but cannot guarantee we will be able to do so as soon as class starts.

4. As we have continued to move through this hybrid/virtual model we continue to LEARN and GROW more and more each day. As I have told our teachers I think we might be pretty amazing at this by next year. In other words, we are all continuing to research, practice, make new mistakes, collaborate, learn and share. These practices will lead to tremendous growth but never perfection.

5. If your child does log in and participate in class they are marked as Virtually Learning for that day and NOT marked simply as absent. If they are capable and able PLEASE have them join in.

You may have noticed that the side of 5th street adjacent to the school has now been ZONED A NO PARKING AREA from 6:00 am until 6:30 pm Monday through Friday. Our HOPE is that this will help alleviate congestion during morning drop-off and ensure student safety during parent pick-up. For those of us whose vehicles have paid the price of parking here perhaps we are saving another car or two in the process as well :-)

As we continue to move through this process we continue to grow, learn and evolve. At this time having gone through the experience of doing some contact tracing, speaking with representatives at the health department and reviewing policy from other area Catholic and public schools we are tightening up our MASK policy a bit. Moving forward for the time being students in grades 2nd and up will be asked to keep their masks on during the school day while in the building within the classroom. Our goals in response to COVID remain two fold...to keep our students and faculty safe and healthy...to keep our students and faculty present in school. This policy will go a long way toward helping us achieve this goal. The students have been doing AN AMAZING JOB in this area and at this time typically have their masks on most of the time without realizing it is even there. THANK YOU for your continued support!

We are excited to bring back the ability to support your SCB Family or parish ministry through the SCRIP program. As with everything else lately, new procedures are necessary to keep our volunteers and staff safe during the exchange of out gift cards. We would like to make the process as hands free as possible. Orders and payments will be made using the online system provided by ShopWithScrip.com. One of our coordinators will then fulfill your order and it will be available for pickup or child delivery.

Middle Schoolers (but especially 8th graders): Please make sure you are current with your immunizations. Due to new regulations, High Schools require all students to have TDap and Meningococcal.

Middle School Females: If you daughter experiences pain at certain times of the month and requires medication, please send a doctor's note with a bottle of medication that they are allowed to take. We also try to stock the bathrooms with "supplies". If you feel inclined to donate such items, we will gladly accept :)

If your child has allergies, please get a note from your doctor. Allergy symptoms mirror Covid-like symptoms. If we do not have a note from your doctor stating they have allergies, your child we be sent home.

PLEASE go to FACTS and fill out the medical portion of each child. It is very important for us to know about your child. Please let us know any medication they may take in the morning- ADHD, Allergy, etc

For now, these are the ways that you can put money on your shared family lunch account. Due to Covid, we would prefer not to handle checks or Cash. I am not sure exactly what it says, but do not choose them as a business otherwise you will be charged a fee. The fee will not show up until it is entered into the lunch account.
