St. Mary's County Health Department and Maryland Partnership for Prevention will be offering flu vaccines in the SMCPS elementary and middle school settings once again this year. The date for Margaret Brent is October 19. If you would like your child to receive the vaccine, you must complete the online registration prior to 10/14/2021. There will be no exceptions for late registration. If your online registration is not complete, or your child has a symptom or medical condition that the vaccinator feels puts your child at risk to receive the vaccination in the school setting, your child will NOT receive the vaccination even if you registered. In that scenario, you will need to contact your child's healthcare provider to make arrangements for the vaccination.

Standards for appropriate attire and accessories shall include the following:

• Students must wear clothing that covers certain body parts. Clothes must be worn in a way such that the chest, midriff, pelvic/groin area, and buttocks are covered with opaque material.
• Clothing displaying or suggesting profanity; sexual activity through graphic images, words, or innuendos; weapons; drugs/alcohol or drug paraphernalia; violence; or tobacco products may not be worn, visible, or displayed.
• Clothing with identifiable gang/crew representation or paraphernalia may not be worn, visible, or displayed.
• Symbols or messages generally accepted to promote intolerance, hate, racial slurs (for example Confederate flag, swastika, Ku Klux Klan or KKK) may not be worn, visible, or displayed.
• Head coverings may only be worn indoors so long as the student's face is visible and it does not interfere with instruction or student safety.
• Shoes must be worn that are safe for all activities.
• Official St. Mary's County Public Schools’ athletic uniforms may be allowed at the discretion of the coach and school administrator.
• Student dress for school-sponsored activities must be in compliance with the Student Dress Code.

As I have indicated during the past several weeks, the social media platform Tik Tok is encouraging students to participate in activities that are destructive, disrespectful, and potentially illegal. There have recently been reports of other Tik Tok challenges for the upcoming months that continue the theme of inappropriate behavior. We will not tolerate students participating in any of the Tik Tok challenges. There will be school consequences for students who choose to engage in this type of behavior. Some behaviors may require the involvement of law enforecement. I respectfully ask parents and guardians to monitor their child's technology use and social media interactions and discuss appropriate school and bus behavior with their child(ren). Thank you in advance for your assistance in helping us to end these Tik Tok Challenges. Please contact your child's grade-level Assistant Principal with any questions or to report any information you may have about student participation in these challenges.

Daily we are responding to bus driver requests to review bus tapes for inappropriate and unsafe behavior on our buses. Please talk to your child concerning safe behavior on the bus. Distractions on the bus create an unsafe environment for individuals both on and outside of the bus. Please be advised that unsafe and inappropriate behavior on the bus may result in a loss of bus riding privileges. We need the support of parents/guardians to help us transition our students back into the school environment.

Also, MBMS students who are attending the Virtual Academy may come to MBMS from 8:00-9:00 in the morning on October 19, for pictures. Please report to the main office
