God Rescues Moses
Who keeps you safe?
God had saved His people from starvation during the famine when He worked through Joseph to bring the families of Jacob to Egypt. Jacob’s family numbered around seventy people when they came to live in the land of Goshen. The Israelites thrived in Egypt and multiplied until “the land was filled with them.” Three hundred years later, a new king of Egypt came to power. He didn’t know about Joseph, and he became afraid of the large numbers of Israelites in their land. His solution was to make them slaves and work them hard. But God blessed His people, and they kept on multiplying. So the king ordered all baby Hebrew (Israelite) boys to be thrown into the Nile. When Moses was born, there was no way his mother was going to throw him in the Nile to drown. So she hid him for three months, and then came up with a plan to keep him safe.
Opening Prayer
Dear God, when we feel afraid, help us to remember that You are always with us. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

Talk about it
- Why did Moses’ mother put him in a basket in the Nile River?
- How did God keep Moses safe?
- How has God kept you safe?
A great nation of Israelites grew from the seventy people that came from Jacob and his sons. Pharaoh was threatened by these people and wanted all the baby Israelite boys killed. Moses’ mother trusted that God would keep her son safe when she placed him in the basket.
God protected Moses in many ways: the basket kept him safe, Miriam was watching out for him, and Pharaoh’s daughter was in the right place at the right time.
Talk about the ways that God has kept you safe. Who has God put in your life to help keep you safe from danger?
