Garfield Skills Center
Let me begin by wishing you all a Happy New Year! During the holiday break, I hope you had the chance to catch up with friends and family and enjoy some rest and relaxation.
As we approach the holiday honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., I am reminded of one of my favorite quotes of his, “Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.” One of the things I appreciate most about the Garfield staff is that they are not silent about the things that matter and together we will continue to provide a high-quality service for you and your student.
At GSC, we place great value on seeing our students showing continued success and progress as they move through their educational journey. I am excited to begin our work for the second half of the school year to support exceptional learning. As we ring in the new year, we see this as an opportunity to check in with students and families to ensure that our students are on-track to meet goals/objectives, prepared with effective communication and ready for the remainder of the school year.
As we begin this new year, our focus in January will be CONFIDENCE. Empowering our students to build their confidence is a vital aspect of supporting their overall development and quality of life. When our students feel empowered, they can navigate the challenges of daily life with greater resilience and independence. It is beneficial to understand strategies and approaches to help foster confidence in our students, therefore, Garfield staff will be teaching, modeling, developing social stories, etc., on this character trait for the month.
We continue to focus on educational equity and to find unique and innovative ways to partner, support and create opportunities that make our post-secondary program a place where all students enjoy learning in the community, developing relationships, and continuing to grow each day socially, emotionally, and academically. As always, thank you for your continued support. Let's finish this 2nd half strong!
