SME Scholastic Book Fair
South Maple Elementary will be hosting a Scholastic Book Fair from Monday, May 23-Thursday, May 26. Students will be able to shop during the day Monday-Thursday and parents are invited to shop after school Wednesday, May 25, 3:30-6:00 PM.

We need volunteers! Click the link below to find a volunteer sign-up. All volunteers will need to complete a background check. Ask your child's teacher to send home a form or stop by the SME office to fill one out.
We are excited for our SME students to pick out great books for some summer reading!

Public Health Nurse supporting SME
Heather Schrems is a public health nurse who works in Gaylord Community Schools for the Health Department of Northwest MI. She is one of the new school-based nurses who will be working at South Maple Elementary and North Ohio Elementary. She is a registered nurse with 13 years of experience. Heather earned her Associate Degree in Nursing in 2009 and her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree in 2018. Heather is a mother of three children. She enjoys spending time with family and friends. She loves outdoor activities such as camping, hiking, paddleboarding, playing and watching sports, and spending time in nature. Her passion is health and wellness, and she looks forward to working with students, staff, and families to provide health and support services.
2022-23 In-Person Learning
Two years ago, GCS offered online learning to meet the needs of our students during the pandemic. With the recent changes in the requirements from the Health Department of Northwest Michigan, GCS will offer in-person learning exclusively for all K-6 students for the 2022-23 next year.
SME Arrival/Dismissal Information
- As many of you are aware morning and afternoon traffic is very congested in our area. Please drive safely and follow traffic laws.
- The student day will begin at 8:00AM and ends at 2:58PM. Students will not be allowed to enter the building before 8:00AM. Latchkey information is available at Latchkey
- Students will eat breakfast in their classroom.
- In an effort to keep traffic flowing efficiently, please do not arrive early for drop off or pick up. Please do not park in the traffic lane by the front sidewalk. Students must exit and enter vehicles on the school side. Please see dismissal attachment below.
P-EBT Program-Food Benefits-Information
Breakfast and Lunch Information
Students will receive one breakfast and lunch per day for the 2021-2022 school year at no cost. All 7-12 grade students may purchase an additional Ala carte item or entree. Gaylord Community Schools have mailed the free and reduced lunch applications. If your child qualifies, please fill out the application and return via mail, email, or applications may be done online by visiting www.gaylordschools.com. The applications will be saved and used to determine student eligibility for the beginning of the 2022-2023 school year.
