Happy Thanksgiving

Dear ABCUSD Families,

It’s time for Fall Break! Elementary school students begin Friday, November 18, 2022, with a Student Free Day, and middle and high school students begin the break on Monday, November 21st. Many will take time over the break to visit family and friends. We are thankful.

After two challenging years, we are thankful for a more “normal” school year. ABCUSD teachers and staff continue to bring their best to help our students meet their academic goals.

Enjoy your Fall Break! Please help your children rest and recharge for the return to school on Monday, November 28th.

ABC High School Bands Win

Congratulations to both the Gahr Marching Gladiators and Cerritos Regiment of Gold for winning at the recent California State Band Chamberships. Gahr took home the Division 5A championship, and Cerritos was awarded the top spot for Division 4A. You can watch Gahr’s “Mad Science” performance here.

Doing the Robot at Wittmann

Last weekend, the Wittmann Robotics Team advanced to the First LEGO League Regional Semi-Final. Not only did they advance, but they were given the Breakthrough Award for the best new team and second place for Best Robot Design. A special thank you to Robotics Coach Ms. Linh Cao and Assistant Coach Aakash Kondaka.

Lights On Afterschool!

Students in the ABC Excels afterschool program, and their families, recently joined in celebrating all things afterschool during Lights On Afterschool. From family painting to planting to Twister, Excels students shared how much fun they have after school.

Artesia High Staff Recognized for Saving a Life

Last spring, a student collapsed on the field at Artesia High School. Thanks to the efforts of coaches on the field, the school’s Sheriff's Deputy, and the school nurse, the student survived a life-threatening situation. These heroes were honored by the City of Lakewood during the Award of Valor luncheon. A well-deserved congratulations to Deputy Bluntach, Nurse Ana, and Coaches Mendoza, Olmstead, and Veach.

Public Health Issues Warning About Respiratory Viruses

The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health has issued a warning about the high level of respiratory viruses spreading across Southern California. The Centers for Disease Control reports high levels of the flu, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), as well as both the common cold and COVID-19. Magnet Schools Fair

The ABCUSD Magnet School Fair is back! The Magnet School Fair is your opportunity to learn more about the amazing programs that our magnet schools offer. A magnet school specializes in a chosen field or two, like math, science, engineering, or the arts. There will be two fairs - one for middle and high schools and one for elementary schools. Both fairs will take place at the ABCUSD District Office located at 16700 Norwalk Boulevard in Cerritos.
