Dublin High School
Week of December 4, 2023
A Note From Dr. Overstreet...
Under 16 Policy: The 16 and Under Policy will be strictly enforced for all home basketball games. Students under the age of 16 will not be allowed to enter the gym without an adult. Additionally, once inside the gym, the under sixteen-year-old must remain seated with a parent or guardian unless the student is going to the concession stand or restroom. Students under 16 years of age and all students must return to their seat without congregating with others.
A Big Irish Shout Out to Paris White and DHS Finalists for the Superintendents Christmas Card Contest: Congratulations to Dublin High School Senior International Baccalaureate student Paris White, our 2023 Superintendent’s Christmas Card Contest winner! White’s design will serve as the official card for Dublin City Schools, which will share the greeting with more than 200 communities, state, and national partners this holiday season. Students were asked to create a card that celebrated the season, but also incorporated aspects of our mission, vision, and core beliefs as a Charter School System.
White, along with other DHS finalists, will take home a host of prizes from 19 area sponsors.
Here’s the list of DHS finalists:
Khalil Young - DHS
Car’Vandryah Bell - DHS
Kennedi Tommie - DHS
Dajah Taylor - DHS
Camilla Simmons - DHS
Our finalists are encouraged to attend the December 11 Board of Education meeting to receive their prize packs, and be recognized by the board for their artistic handiwork.
A Big Irish Shout Out to Emily Landrum: Fighting Irish Family, join us in extending best wishes to Emily Landrum! The Dublin High School-Georgia Senior is currently in Louisville, Kentucky competing in the Junior Market Goats category at the North American International Livestock Exposition. Emily was already named the Senior Showmanship Champion during the Laurens County Market Goat Show and placed 7th in both weight classes with her market does at this year’s Georgia National Fair Livestock Show, so we’re sure she’ll represent the green and gold well.
After graduating this May, Landrum plans to attend Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College and study Agricultural Education. She credits her Ag Teacher - Mr. Mark Donnell’s passion for his students and our Agriculture Pathway with her career choice.
Dr. Williams, State Superintendent of the Year: Dublin City Schools’ Lead Learner, Dr. Fred Williams, has been named the 2024 Georgia Superintendent of the Year. Sponsored by the Georgia School Superintendents Association, this distinction recognizes district leaders across the state who are making a positive difference in the lives of the students they serve. The announcement was made during today’s Georgia School Boards Association/Georgia School Superintendents Association Winter Conference.
Each year, school board members, Regional Education Service Agencies, business organizations, and education professionals nominate leaders for Superintendent of the Year. Following a rigorous process, a committee of former award winners and education administrators selects a winner.
As Georgia Superintendent of the Year, Dr. Williams will now compete for National Superintendent of the Year. The School Superintendents Association will award the title in February 2024 at their annual conference in San Diego, California.
Dr. Williams said the recognition belongs to the thousands of students, staff members and families that make up the Fighting Irish Family.
“This high honor is extremely humbling yet exciting,” said Dr. Williams. “I am so proud of how this recognition speaks to the work of the internal and external stakeholders of Dublin City Schools. Thank you so much for all you do!!! I love you, and there’s nothing you can do about it.”
Dr. Williams has been Dublin City Schools’ superintendent since 2015.
ECOT Testing this Week: This week is ECOT Georgia Milestones Testing at Dublin High School. The most important thing to know as a parent is to have your child present to test with their class. Students can also recover credits for courses they may have previously failed in order to get back on track for graduation. The afternoon program is Monday - Thursday from 2:30 until 5:30. Bus transportation along with an afterschool meal are provided. For more information, please contact Ms. Madison, the school's Graduation Coach at 478-353-8040.
