Chapter 49 Updates
2023 Comp Plans that will be due need to have the language of all three competencies (Structured Literacy, CR-SE, and professional Ethics) will need to be in the professional development plans and induction plans (including two years for induction) for professional ethics, structured literacy, and CR-SE.
- Structured Literacy training coming January 2023. 10 Hours (not mandatory to use this training). Deadline for Structured Literacy is SY 22-23 or certification will go inactive.
- Induction - include professional ethics and CR-SE beginning 2023-2024; 2-year induction program beginning 2024-2025
- Act 48 plan - include in plan the following: professional ethics, CR-SE, and structured literacy beginning 2023-2024.
The implementation and start for 2 year induction and the competencies will be for the 2024-2025 school year.
- Culturally Responsive and Sustaining Education (CR-SE) - CR-SE is inclusive of mental wellness, trauma-informed instruction, cultural awareness, and technological and virtual engagement.
- Beginning with the 2022-2023 school year, PDE must establish a program of professional development and applied practice in structured literacy. The continuing professional development plans of each school entity must include training in structured literacy competencies/standards for the five specified certification programs.
- The Structured Literacy competencies are based on IDA's Knowledge and Practice Standards for Teachers of Reading and will now be required as part of PA teacher certification.

PVAAS
PVAAS reporting for the 2021-2022 school year has been released to all users as of November 3rd. Please click here to see the detailed updates given to Curriculum Council about PVAAS in October.
Scores were taken down temporarily by PDE, but have now been restored.
Act 13 Reminders
LEA selected measures required for all professional classroom teachers (no n count)
IEP goals progress measure is required for all professional classroom teachers if n count is met
LEA selected measure = student performance measure. Wording can be confusing.

We’ve posted the overall building scores so that they can be used in evaluation templates as soon as needed. We’ll update the site to include the component values that contribute to the overall scores when the Future Ready PA Index goes live to the public. - The Allegheny Intermediate Unit is hosting a Career Ready PA Boot Camp Refresher on January 31 from 8:30am-12pm.
- ARIN IU28 has submitted a BEP grant to offset the cost of transportation for the Senior Soft Skills Challenge to be held for high school seniors in the spring.
- ARIN IU28 has been approved to provide up to 500 scholarships for learners ages 13 and up to cover the cost of Google Career Certificates.
- SkillUp PA (Metrix Learning) for Schools is planing a site administrator training.
- The Counselor Collaboration Group will meet on Nov. 29th. Click here for additional dates.
