MMS Weekly Update
August 31, 2023
First Day of School
The first day of school, Tuesday, September 5, is right around the corner.
School starts at 7:35 a.m. Please remind your child to bring his or her schedule and locker combination to school so that he/she has the necessary information. We do not have these printed.
The first day of school ends at 10:49 a.m. Please be sure that your child knows the plans for after school that day. Also, please be sure that your child knows his/her bus route number.
The doors that will be unlocked for students to enter the building in the morning will be the following: The main office doors (7:10), the doors to the sixth grade wing back by the bus loop (7:20), and the doors closest to the tennis courts in the back of the building (7:20). These doors will lock at 7:35 a.m.
As part of the security measures in place to keep our students safe, we are asking that parents do not come in and walk students to their locker or classes on the first day of school. Not only is this a security issue, but it also is truly not necessary. Sixth grade students want to be independent and are more than capable of navigating their way with the help of all our teachers, secretaries, hall monitors, counselors, WEB Leaders, and administration. We will have people in the halls to assist with directions and any locker problems as well as help them find their classes.
Please also speak to your student about the importance of never opening a door which is locked, even if there are people standing outside knocking/pounding. We must follow our protocol of checking IDs and buzzing people into the building. Thank you!
We are looking forward to a great first day of school!
Schedules
During the first few weeks of school, if a student has a schedule change, we will call them to the counseling office to provide them with their new schedule.

Please read the following information regarding this Friday's South Lyon East High School Football Game from SLEHS ADMINISTRATION
SLEHS is excited to welcome our community to our first home football game where we will host the 2nd Annual East Football "Kickoff for Autism Acceptance" game, at 7:00 PM in the East Stadium. This game is also "Panther Night". In order to provide the safest environment for our younger spectators, we are asking that attendees who are not high school age be accompanied by an adult while at the game. All high school-aged student spectators are also asked to bring either their driver's license or high school ID and be prepared to show them at the gate. Spectators should not bring large backpacks or bags into the stadium as they will be asked to return them to their vehicles or have them picked up. Outside food and beverages are also prohibited.
These rules will apply to all home football games.
Thank you in advance for helping provide a safe and enjoyable environment for our community!
Parking will be monitored by the Oakland County Sheriff's Department. Please be patient as parking spaces are limited on campus. Deputies will be on-site to help direct traffic.
Curriculum Night
We hope to see you September 14 for Millennium Middle School's Curriculum Night.
Classroom visits will begin at 6:30 p.m. and end at 8:00 p.m. During this time, you will have the opportunity to follow your student’s schedule and experience his/her day as he/she does. You will visit each class for ten minutes and have five minutes passing time between classes. Please bring your student's schedule.
Exterior doors in the front and back of the building will be unlocked. Due to the expected large crowds, parking might not be available at MMS. Additional parking is available at Centennial Middle School.
Curriculum Night is for parents only. Students do not need to attend.
We will send a reminders next week and the following Wednesday!

Band Instrument Fitting (2nd Night)
We are thrilled to welcome you to the South Lyon band program! As part of our preparation for the upcoming school year, we are hosting our annual instrument fitting sessions. This is a fantastic opportunity for our new band students to explore different instruments, make their final selections, and get placed into their band classes.
Many of our students have already had the opportunity to try out instruments during their 5th-grade classes. However, these summer sessions offer additional time to make a well-informed choice and possibly change their original selection.
The instrument fittings will take place in the Millennium Middle School Cafeteria on:
- Tuesday, September 5th from 5-8pm
To ensure smooth running of these events, we have divided the sessions into smaller groups based on last names. If you cannot make your scheduled time slot, feel free to drop in at a time that works for you:
- 5:00pm: Last names A-I
- 5:45pm: Last Names J-N
- 6:30pm: Last Names O-S
- 7:15pm: Last Names T-Z
We look forward to welcoming you to these exciting sessions and helping to set you child up for a successful first year in band! Please reach out to Mrs. Watson at watsont@slcs.us if you have any questions.
Musically Yours,
Mrs. Watson

If you have a student entering 7th grade in September 2022 please make sure their immunizations are up to date before the first day of school on September 6. As of January 2015, school districts can no longer provide immunization waivers. Waiver forms needs to be a certified State of Michigan, Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) Immunization waiver Form. Schools can only accept the current 2019 State of Michigan waiver form.
Parent/guardians can contact their county health department for more information on certified State of Michigan waivers.
We’re hoping to give families time to schedule any needed immunizations prior to the start of the 2022/2023 school year.
