Plan a Summer Filled with Fun & Learning
Educational/exploratory summer programs are great opportunities for students to explore their career interests, build their resumes, and check out colleges/universities of interest.
Take a look at Oregon Goes to College’s list of Summer Programs
There is a little something for EVERYONE:
- College Programs
- Apprenticeship Programs
- Career Exploration
- Leadership
- Community Service
Many of these programs have registrations that are already open, and these types of programs fill up fast. Encourage your students to consider ways they can be ‘productive’ and continue learning during their summer months!
OSU Engineering Summer Camps
This summer there are a number of in-person and virtual summer camps taking place at OSU. Most of them do have a cost associated with them, however, there are Needs-based scholarships available for students. You can see all the camps that are taking place here: https://stemacademy.oregonstate.edu/high-school-summer-camps - I will highlight the ones that connect with engineering and are virtual:
In-person:
- “Blender” Camp (Computer Science)
- Toxicology Camp (Bioengineering, Ecological engineering)
- Microbiology Camp (Bioengineering)
- This camp would be free and the student would get a $405 gift card after they complete the camp if they are underrepresented.
- https://tinyurl.com/Microbiology2023 -> if the student is from an underrepresented group, have them use this link, there are 3 spots left.
- OSU Summer Transportation Institute (Civil and construction engineering)
- Cyber Camp (Computer Science)
Virtual:
- “Blender” Camp (Computer Science)
- "Processing" Camp (Computer Science)
Students and or parents can register here: http://apps.ideal-logic.com/stemacademy - if you have any additional questions, you can email my colleague - Catherine Law - Catherine.Law@oregonstate.edu

How to Compare Financial Aid Offers
For most students, the cost of college will be a major factor in the decision about where to attend. So it's important to compare financial aid offers carefully.
Here's how:
- Wait for your financial aid offers
- Consider all the costs and calculate what you will actually pay
- Pay attention to the types of aid
- Get help, especially if you have changes to your financial situation
- Make a decision and follow up

Your MHCC Credits
At the end of this school year, you will want to request an official transcript from MHCC to be sent to your future college so your credits will transfer there.
Remember, if you have AP credits, you will need to request those from the CollegeBoard and have them sent to your future college to be added to your transcript.
Headed to MHCC Next Fall?
If you prefer to take a test to see whether you can be placed higher, go to the MHCC CPT website to learn more.
Also, MHCC will be offering their placement test here at SBHS on April 19 from 2:30-5:00pm.
Go to the C&CC to learn how to sign up for this option for placement.
Seniors-Your Evening of Excellence is in the planning stages
Tuesday, May 30th at 7:00pm is the SBHS Evening Of Excellence. This event is where local scholarship donors award their scholarships to our students and is also a chance for SBHS to acknowledge support from local businesses and service groups. Students will also be recognized for a variety of honors.
All students and families are welcome to attend. Scholarship winners, or students being recognized for another honor, will receive an invitation in the mail. This event is not set up to recognize every scholarship earned by students but is a pared down event for local recognition.
