Principal's Report - Dr. Phillip Reavis
Oakview Alumni Excel!
At the recent National Honor Society induction ceremony at J.L. Mann High School, Oakview was well represented! The National Honor Society is an organization established to recognize outstanding high school students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, leadership, service, and character. Shortly after the induction ceremony, I heard from a former parent who attended and she counted 51 Oakview alumni being inducted that night! In her email, the parent stated that she felt, “so blessed to be a part of the Oakview tradition of excellence!” Reports like this should give encouragement to all parents and teachers for their sustained efforts in supporting the children we serve each day. They also give further evidence of the long term impact of the high quality education Oakview provides. I know you join me in celebrating all the successes of our current and former Oakview students!
Lottery Seats at Oakview
Do you know someone who wants to attend Oakview but doesn’t live in our school zone? The 2016-17 Change in Assignment Choice lottery application window will be available to parents from Monday, December 7 through Friday, December 18, 2015. The Change in Assignment Choice process will remain the same as last year. Parents will be notified of their school assignment no later than Thursday, March 24, 2016. All Greenville County Schools households will receive a mailed brochure this month outlining the process. To submit an application for a seat at Oakview, please come in to the school office between the hours of 7:30-4:00 and complete the appropriate form.
Jingle Bell Toy Drop
Tuesday, December 1 through Friday, December 4, gently used and new toys will be collected during our Annual Jingle Bell Toy Drop. New toys will go to the Salvation Army and gently used toys will go to the Greenville Human Relations Commission. Please drop them off each morning between 7:30-8:00 at the kindergarten and main entrance.
Family Math, Science & Technology Night
Oakview’s Family Math, Science, and Technology Night will be February 11, 2016, and we need your help! We are looking for six businesses who are in related math/science/technology fields who would be willing to either:
a) set up a small demonstration/activity for parents/students to stop by and visit
b) give us materials and/or a display related to your company’s math/science/technology connections to display in one of our rooms for you.
This is a perfect opportunity for the students to make connections to real-world careers in these fields, as well as for your business to get some extra exposure with our community. If you are willing to help us, please contact Charnley DeMeritt at cdemerit@greenville.k12.sc.us or leave a message at 355-7159. Thank you for supporting math, science, and technology at Oakview!
PTA President's Report - Celeste Blinston
This Thanksgiving, I will be giving thanks for the Oakview Elementary School family that our children have had the good fortune to be a part of over the last seven years. It has been a busy few months for all and your time commitment and generous support to OES PTA has helped us realize the PTA mission- "Making every child's potential a reality". And, we are looking forward to more great events in December, like the Jingle Bell Drop and Elf Shelf Holiday House. I hope you all enjoy your Thanksgiving break and please do not hesitate to contact me at cblinston@charter.net if you need assistance or have any questions.
