DISMISSAL INFORMATION
Ways Your Child can be Dismissed
At Meet-the-Teacher, your child's homeroom teacher asked you how your child will be dismissed. At Lakewood, we have the following options: front door walkers, back door walkers, car riders, day care van, and bus riders. If you have any questions about your child's dismissal, please email your child's teacher. Thank you!
Car Rider Procedures: (If you are new to the car rider line, please scroll down & watch the video by clicking on the blue button.)
- We are asking parents to not begin arriving at the morning car rider line until 8:05 am and the dismissal car rider line until 3:40 pm. Please do not enter the LES grounds until these times because our staff members need to be able to enter and exit the parking lots.
- Please remain in your car at all times.
- Drop off - Staff will wave & your children exit the car.
- Pick up – Post PURPLE Family Dismissal Tag (provided at Meet the Teacher) on rear view mirror and staff will get students to car. If you do not have your PURPLE Family Dismissal Tag, you will need to go to the front office so that we can check your id.
Please be alert for students walking to school and in crosswalks.
Please do not talk or text on cell phones while driving in the school zone. This is a state law.
We are attempting to keep traffic off of Gettysburg as much as possible. If the car rider line extends onto Gettysburg, please follow these procedures:
Form one line down Gettysburg Drive from Louetta in the right hand lane. This allows residents to travel throughout the neighborhood without waiting in the car rider line.
If you need to join the car rider line, please do so at the end of the line. Please do not join the line at the stop sign or at the entrance to the school.
Please do not park in front of driveways so that homeowners have access to their homes.
We are asking that you only make a right turn when leaving our parking lot and turning onto Gettysburg Drive.
Front Door Walker / Bike Rider Procedures:
- Please be sure and complete the walker registration for each student, click this link: https://forms.gle/eE5KN3YKBKJWg4d47
- Front Door Walkers may enter the building at 8:10 through the front doors.
- At dismissal, parents line up on the small playground in front of the school. (See map below)
- Parents must park off of the school grounds.
Do not park near the crosswalk on Gettysburg Drive so that drivers can see our students in the crosswalk, and our students can have a clear view of oncoming cars.
Bring your PURPLE family dismissal hang tag with you. If you do not have your family tag, we will need to check your id.
If you want to give CONSENT for your child to be released to an OLDER LAKEWOOD STUDENT or ALONE, ask for the consent form. These students will be dismissed out of the gym exit doors near the PK classrooms.

Back Door Walker / Bike Rider Procedures:
- Please be sure and complete the walker registration for each student, click this link: https://forms.gle/eE5KN3YKBKJWg4d47
- Back Door Walkers may enter the building at 8:10 am through the doors by the counselor’s office.
Please do not talk or text on cell phones while driving in the school zone. This is a state law.
The street behind the school, Gatesden, can become congested during dismissal. Cars and buses must be able to pass through on Gatesden. Please be sure to only park in areas that do not restrict the flow of traffic.
Please do not park near the crosswalks so that drivers can see our students in the crosswalk, and our students can have a clear view of oncoming cars.
Please be courteous to the homeowners in this area and do not block their driveways or access to their homes.
Bring your PURPLE family dismissal hang tag with you. If you do not have your family tag, we will need to check your id.
Parent pick up line begins at the gate of the playground at the back of the school. (See map below). When the dismissal bell rings, the line will move up to the back door (by the counselor's office).
If you want to give CONSENT for your child to be released to an OLDER LAKEWOOD STUDENT or ALONE, ask for the consent form.

Bus Procedures:
- If you have any questions about bus routes, contact the transportation department at 281-357-3193.
- Please expect the buses to run late during the first week of school.
- Our TISD buses use the SMART Tag system. Each student has an id badge that will be placed on their backpack. (Students will receive the badges on the 1st day of school.) Students scan their badges as they enter and exit the bus.
- Pre-Kindergarten, ECSE, Kindergarten, and 1st grade students must have an adult meet them at the bus stop unless a parent permission form is signed. If there is not an authorized adult at the bus stop, PK-1st grade students will be returned to the school until a parent can pick them up.
- Bus schedules are now available in the Smart Tag Admin Parent Portal https://parent.smart-tag.net/Home/SelectDistrict
- If no bus information is provided in the ST portal, refer to infofinder via: http://www.infofinderi.com/ifi/?cid=TI05693839218
Daycare Van Procedures:
- The daycare vans pick up their students in the car rider line & follow the car rider procedures above.
Thank you for your cooperation in helping keep our students safe!

Car Rider Fast Pass in Pick up Line
Last year at our PTO Spring Fundraiser, two Lakewood parents were the winners of the Car Rider Line Fast Pass. These two parents are able to go to the front of the car rider line each afternoon and wait in a designated spot. The parents will have a Fast Pass sign in their car windows. Please allow these two cars to move to their designated spot at the front of the line. Thank you!
IMPORTANT INFORMATION FROM THE NURSE
Parent Information from Nurse Suzanne:
Please read below all instructions on medications and required forms.
Nurse Rx Information for the New School Year 2023-24
Medications:
- The nurse is not allowed to give your child any medication at school unless a parent brings the medicine to the school and signs the “Medication Permission and Guidelines” form. This form is required for ANY medication given on campus, whether over-the-counter (OTC) or prescription (see forms link below).
- Students are NOT allowed to carry any medicine to or from school for safety reasons. A parent, or designated adult, must bring the medicine to the nurse (even cough drops).
- Tylenol/Acetaminophen, Advil/Motrin/Ibuprofen, allergy medicine, congestion meds, cortisone/Benadryl cream for bug bites, etc., may be left with the school nurse if you think your child may need it on occasion during the school year. Make sure the med has not expired before you bring it to the nurse, and don’t forget the signed permission form (there are also forms in the clinic).
- Any prescription medicine from a doctor MUST have a doctor's signature allowing the nurse to give the medicine at school. You may take the medication permission form to the doctor to sign, or the nurse can accept a letter from the doctor (or emergency plan that has a doctor's signature) with the student’s name, DOB, medication name and dose, and the doctor’s signature. Examples of these medicines are ADHD meds, inhalers for asthma, emergency seizure medicine, diabetes care, tube feedings, etc.
- If your child has any condition that may require emergency medication at school, it is best to provide an ‘Emergency Action Plan’ from the doctor. Examples of these conditions include seizures, acute asthma, severe allergies requiring an EpiPen at school, etc.
- The link below will take you to the Health Services page on www.tomballisd.net to access the forms you need. https://www.tomballisd.net/about-tisd/departments/health-services/medications
