Happy Valentine’s Day to all of our families and students. We had amazing decorated hearts returned this month. I would like to encourage families to continue to send the hearts back to school so students can enjoy them in the gym. Students are excited to share their favorite items and people with all of their friends.
Students had a wonderful time exploring Valentine's Day activities and writing letters to others in the classroom. Please check your student’s backpack to make sure the Valentine's Day Cards are taken out. Next week we will be learning more about Fairy Tales and Fables. Students will be working on rhymes and songs and sequencing events. Reminder, Crawfordsville Community School does not have school on Monday, February 19, 2024 due to President’s Day.
This is a reminder that March Tuition needs to be paid by February 23. We are encouraging ALL families to apply for CCDF or On My Way PreK vouchers if you need financial assistance to cover tuition. Tuition will be $100 beginning March 1 for ALL families in the community classrooms. If you have any questions, please contact us at 765-362-0005.
Information for Car Riders

Please walk your student to the gate where you will be greeted by staff members. For dismissal procedures, students will be dismissed five at a time to their parents once the cars have been parked by the painted signs on the playground fence. Parents will walk up to the gate to greet their student.

2nd - 3rd Grade News
I am so proud of the hard work our students have put in this year! I recognize that our students learn and excel differently and demonstrate their knowledge in a variety of ways. As students progress through Elementary School, there are a few ways that the state of Indiana requires students to demonstrate their knowledge, the first is through an assessment called IREAD-3, given in 3rd grade, and the second is through an assessment called ILEARN, given in 3rd, 4th and 5th grades.
Our 2nd and 3rd grade students will participate in the IREAD-3 Test March 5th, 6th and 7th. We should receive results of the IREAD-3 test by the end of April. You can watch this quick video for more information on I-Read 3: https://youtu.be/kgYHK4nC2C0. If you have any questions about testing please feel free to contact me. jcocanower@cville.k12.in.us
As we approach the upcoming testing season, I want to remind you about the importance of creating an optimal testing environment for your child. Headphones are needed for both IREAD-3 and ILEARN testing. Please ask your child if they have a working pair of headphones. If not, please consider purchasing another pair as they will be needed. Thank you for your cooperation and support in creating a positive testing experience for our students.

Counselor's Corner
Attendance Matters
The importance of good attendance in school cannot be overstated. School provides not just academic education but also social and emotional development opportunities important for a child's growth. When children miss school without valid reasons, they miss out on learning experiences, social interactions, and skill-building activities. This can lead to a sense of isolation from peers and hinder their academic progress. It's essential for parents to encourage regular attendance and address any underlying issues that may be causing their child to miss school, such as anxiety.
Anxiety can manifest in various physical symptoms like decreased appetite, fatigue, stomachaches, and headaches. These symptoms may contribute to a child's reluctance to attend school. Parents should watch for these signs and consult with school counselors to address the root causes of anxiety and to help find strategies to support their child's attendance.
Communication with the school is important in ensuring that absences are properly documented. Parents should notify the school promptly of any absences or appointments to ensure smooth communication and to support their child's academic journey.
For any questions or concerns regarding attendance policies or procedures, parents can reach out to the school's office staff or refer to the elementary handbook available on the school website. Clear communication and collaboration between parents and schools are essential in promoting good attendance and facilitating the overall well-being and success of students.
