TITLE IV FUNDS SURVEY: 2023–24
Flagler Schools values your input! Please complete a Title IV stakeholder survey to share your feedback about funds for the 2023–24 school year.
Flagler Schools is awarded an annual Title IV, Part A, Student Support and Academic Enrichment (SSAE) grant. This grant supports the following district initiatives:
- Provide students with access to a well-rounded education
- Improve safe and healthy school conditions for student learning
- Improve the use of technology to advance academic achievement and digital literacy of all students
Please provide your input on the use of Title IV funds by completing the survey linked below. The survey will remain open until Friday, April 14.
4-H Speech Contest Winners
5th grade kicked off the event on Wednesday, and the 4th grade finished on Thursday. Brooklin Testa's "How Social Media is Unsocial" (4th) & Emmalee Ellis' "Annoying Things My Dog Does" (5th) brought home the gold with their first-place finishes. Our silver medalists are Lela Howard's "Why I Love Softball" (4th) & Micah Evensen's "Vote for Micah" (5th). And our bronze medalists were Emma Hancock, "Softball/Failing is OK" (4th) & Vincent Forsythe, "Why the School Day Should Be Shorter" (5th).
All six medalists will compete at the District Contest on Thursday, April 27th, at the IFAS Extension Office Auditorium. Everyone is welcome to come to cheer on our Bullpups.

Thank you for showing us grace, understanding, and encouragement when the days bring struggles, and you are willingly riding this roller coaster with us, and we appreciate you!
- Fallon Bender - Mrs. Evensen: I have enjoyed getting to see you interacting with students at the lock-ins and seeing the evidence of relationships you have been building with students! Thank you for being GIVING with your time!
- Jen Bowden – Mrs. Evensen & Ms. McGee: They are Passionate about helping us become a team! They really as empathetic supporters! They model our school expectations!
- Nina deBodisco - Both of our APs are hardworking, and dedicated to student growth in both academics and social behaviors. Mrs. Evensen is a powerhouse with endless energy; she is here early and is usually the last to leave. She is uber-focused on student growth and looks for ways to help teachers achieve this. Way to go with a 1.5 million dollar grant! Ms. McGee - Is always capturing both students' and teachers' hearts all day long. She is a great problem solver, and her approach to the students is kind and compassionate yet firm and resolute.
- Katy Gantz - Mrs. Evensen: I love how data-driven, goal-oriented, and dedicated you are to our students and staff! I love that you always have a smile on your face and a positive attitude! Thanks for all that you do!

- Sara Smith - My class and I love our Assistant Principals! Mrs. Evensen is extremely knowledgeable and is always there to answer questions and brainstorm. Ms. McGee is always available to help with ideas and CKH and has such a heart for children! We could not be happier to work with them!
- Kristyn Steffens - Mrs. Evensen: So supportive of our high-support programs! The open lines of communication are appreciated!

Spring into Reading Read-A-Thon
During the month of April, BES Elementary will hold a Read-A-Thon. A Read-A-Thon is designed to reinforce good reading habits. The Read-A-Thon will start on Monday, April 3, 2023 and run through Friday, April 28, 2023. As a school our goal is to read 100,000 minutes in the month of April.
Important Information:
- Start reading and recording your minutes on Monday, April 3.
- Use your Official Reading Calendar to keep track of how many minutes you read each day.
- No guessing, please look at the clock or use a timer or stopwatch to manage your time.
- Please remember that Character Counts: Be honest with your minutes so that it will be fair and fun for everyone.
- All reading calendars must be signed by a parent or guardian.
- Logs are to be turned in to the classroom teacher Friday 15th and 28th to keep track of the minutes read . Teachers will turn logs in to academic coaches for schoolwide updates.
- The last day to read for the Read-A-Thon is Friday, April 28th. No minutes will be counted after this date. Make sure to return your Reading Log to school by Friday, April 28.

In order to accommodate a high number of car riders, please review and follow the BES car rider procedures, directions, and traffic patterns. We appreciate your cooperation and patience; your student's safety is our first priority.
Registration
Registration for a car rider tag is only required for K–5 students being picked up in the after-school car rider line. Registration is not needed for morning drop-off. You can pick up Car Rider tags in the Front Office from 9:00 am–2:45 pm. Pre/VPK car riders should contact the VPK office as these students follow different procedures.
Procedures:
- Families picking up their student at car riders must have their tag displayed with the number visible.
- Students may only load and unload from the passenger side of the vehicle.
- Families must remain in the car, and BES staff will assist the student if necessary.
- Walk-ups are not permitted.
- There is no parking in the loading zone.
- Please have the student memorize their car rider number.
- If your tag is lost, please request a replacement at the front desk.
- To pick up a student who is not listed on your car rider number, you must be listed on the student's emergency form and sign them out at the front desk.
- If you do not have a car rider tag or forgot your tag, you must park & report to the Front Office and sign your student out.
Directions:
All K–5 car riders should enter the school area off E. Magnolia Street (Green line on the map below). The yellow line on the map below is for Pre-K car riders.
- K–5, exit the parking lot and make a right on N. Palmetto.
- Pre-K car riders will come down E. Howe Street and make a left into the gym parking lot just before N. Peach St. You will exit N. Chapel by turning left to prevent disruption of the K-5 car rider line on E. Magnolia St. East Howe will be your way in and out of the school zone for Pre-K.
- Pre-K cars are not permitted on N. Peach St. This is to prevent disruption of bus traffic.
- For the safety and protection of our students, staff, and yourself, we ask that you only pass cars in the line if a member of our team or law enforcement directs you to do so.
- Walkers will exit onto Orange St. Parents are not to park anywhere along E. Howe or the side streets.
- If your child arrives or leaves school in a car, they should be a car rider. Contact the front office for a Car Rider tag.

The Wawa Foundation is a new sponsor for Bunnell Elementary School. They contributed to our Teacher Appreciation event in October and Teacher Appreciation Week in May. The Wawa Foundation is a non-profit whose purpose is: Fulfilling Lives Every Day, by Building Stronger Communities. We are thankful for the support from Wawa & its philanthropic organization.
Wawa is located at 5600 State Road 100 East, with a second location slated for Florida Park Drive at the intersection of Palm Coast Parkway, SE.
