Our first Munch-n-Read of the year is in the books! Unit C won popsicles and popcorn for being the food drive winners and chose to enjoy their popcorn treat along with some good books this afternoon. Unit C brought popcorn for Unit B since they worked so hard and were a very close second in the food drive - thank you Unit C for this super kind gesture! It was wonderful seeing so many Unit A families getting to enjoy reading time with their littles. Munch-n-Read will take place the first Friday of every month!
One Read clues started this week and we will have our kick-off assembly on October 11th where the One Read book selection will be revealed! Each family will be given one book to enjoy together (if you have multiple children we will send the family copy home with the oldest sibling) and a calendar showing reading assignments for each evening. We will ask a trivia question each morning on announcements regarding the previous night’s read. Classes will discuss the question and submit their answer as a class.
Continuing to foster a healthy and strong reading culture within our building is a top priority! We love giving students and families opportunities to connect with each other through literature. We hope you all participate in the One Read and enjoy the experience! Check out some stats below about the impact of reading at home - if you are ever in need of books, please reach out and we will get some in your hands!
Reminders:
We are still missing the 4-page district permission form for some of our students. We have field trips coming up in the next couple weeks for all units and we need a completed signed district form for students before they can attend a field trip (Unit A Oct. 12, Unit B Oct. 24, Unit C Planetarium (district-sponsored) Oct. 31 and all school trip to Annie Nov. 17).
Mizzou spirit parade on Monday, October 9th. If you’d like your child to stay back from EEE that morning to be present for the parade, please let your child’s teacher and/or the office know!
We are still in need of a few items and volunteers for the 100 year celebration next weekend! Please click here to sign up for a donation or volunteer opportunity. Thank you to everyone who has already signed up! We are looking forward to seeing many of you on the 14th
We will have Susan Fales, former principal of Ridgeway who served for many years, give a keynote address at 2:30. The remainder of the event will be open house style where you can enjoy cupcakes and a beverage, view display boards featuring RWE pictures and artifacts throughout the past 100 years, and guided tours through the building.
Fall is here! The weather is getting cooler outside. Please remember to check the weather each morning and send students in weather appropriate clothing so they can enjoy being outside! You are welcome to send a jacket for them to leave at school, as sometimes classrooms get cold as well.
Unit News
Unit A
Unit B
Unit B will be out of the building from 9 am-12 pm on October 24. We will be visiting the Columbia Center for Urban Agriculture to explore nature! We had a great first Munch-n-Read.
Unit C
At Munch-n-Read today, Unit C enjoyed the popcorn part of the “Playground, popsicles, and Popcorn” party they won for raising the most food donations. Congratulations to all of Unit C!
Please continue to have conversations with your child/children about using the planner and completing assignments. We are practicing to develop the life-long skill of organization.
FLU VACCINATION INFORMATION
The influenza vaccine (flu shot) will be offered to students at Ridgeway on October 23.
Only students who return a signed consent form will receive the vaccine. This service to free
and provided by the Columbia/Boone County Department of Public Health and Human Services.
Consent forms are being sent home with your student today.
Ridgeway One Read
The Ridgeway One Read starts Wednesday! For this special two week event (October 11-25), each family will receive a copy of the same book to read at home together. At school, there will be a daily question about the previous night’s reading and other fun activities to go along with novel. The reading will require about 10 minutes each night, and I am asking you to open your schedule to enjoy this special reading time with your children. The book will be revealed at school Wednesday, October 11! Each school day leading up to then, a new clue will be revealed as to what the book is; be checking the Ridgeway Twitter page (@RweRams) to guess along!
Here are the two clues so far:
- This book was written and illustrated by sisters. The author lives in Missouri. The illustrator lives in California.
- In 2001, this book was nominated for 14 state awards. It didn’t win in any state, but received an honorable mention in Massachusetts.

100 Year Celebration
Saturday, October 14
Our 100 Year Celebration on October 14th is quickly approaching! We would love to have some help with supplies and treats for the event. If you are willing and able, please sign up for anything you’d like to provide. https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0D4AADA928A2FFC43-44358025-100year
On the event invitation is a RSVP link. Please take a moment to indicate how many people in your family plan to attend (if you’re attending).
You’ll also notice there are slots available to sign up to create a picture display board representing a decade of Ridgeway. We have several tubs of photos and artifacts separated out by decade. We would rather keep these things at school since many are quite old and fragile, so transporting them back and from between school and home may be hard on them. If you sign up for one of those spots, you would need to be willing to come to Ridgeway and work in the teachers’ lounge on this project. If you have any questions about the sign up or volunteer opportunities, please do not hesitate to reach out!
