The nationwide strike is on Wednesday 29 May.
Puketapu School will be closed tomorrow, Wednesday, 29 May.
Student Learning Conferences
Thursday 20 June 3.30-6.30pm
Friday 21 June 8.00am -4.30pm
* While Friday counts as a school day, students only need to be here for their conference, then go home for the rest of the day.
What is a student learning conference?
A meeting run by the student for his or her parents, entirely focused on the student's recent learning. During the conference, the student will showcase their learning in different curriculum areas while discussing their learning goals.
How do student learning conferences work?
Conferences will be 20 minutes. They will involve looking at samples of learning, talking about their learning goals and what your child, you and the teacher might do to support these goals. At some point during your conference, your child's teacher will have some time with you to expand on the information your child has shared or for you to clarify something if necessary.
In our Year 0-3 there will be more prompting from the teacher compared to our Year 4-8’s where we will be supporting the students to lead their conference.
What will I need to do to support my child?
- Book a time and put it in your diary (Book Online at schoolinterviews )
- Come — with your child.
- Listen — your child will do most of the talking. S/he will discuss with you their current learning goals.
- Prompt to support your child if necessary
What were you learning to do in this piece of work?
What were the steps you went through to learn this?
What helped you to learn this?
What do you need to learn next?
What are you most proud of? Why?
Which area of learning do you find easiest? Why?
Which area of learning do you find trickiest? Why?
What could we do together to help you with this learning? - Enjoy the opportunity to see your child in his/her key learning environment.
Important things to remember
Your child will lead this conference—not you, not the teacher. Your child must be here.
As part of their regular learning, all students have been putting considerable time and energy into preparing for this. If you cannot attend, please arrange for another significant adult in your child’s life to come to the conference.
The conference is about learning—not behaviour or social issues. (If you or the teacher have concerns here, discussions should already have been held). - or can be discussed at a later date upon arrangement

Kauri Hub Camp Notice
We are aware and understand that whanau want to know about camp for the Kauri Hub. We thank you for your patience over the last term. The Wellington camp was not pre-booked and it has not possible to book for all our students this year.
This term there will be a whole hub EOTC (Education Outside The Classroom) trip as well as day trips for Mana Aotoroa.
In Term 3, we will be having a winter EOTC week where there will be a Year 8 Ski camp and other EOTC activities that week for our Year 7's (and Year 8's that do not choose to go on the Year 8 Ski Trip).
We are currently looking at EOTC opportunities for Term 4. We are excited by what other opportunities we can offer and look forward to sharing the details with you soon.
The Tech Hub
Kia Ora Puketapu Whanau.
Last weeks cookie making was really fun. We had some really good flavor combinations and lots of different shapes and sizes. Through-out the lesson we had some interesting conversations that included lots of maths! At the end of each lesson we all sat together and did an evaluation, rating our cookies from 1-5 for taste, small and look. I was really impressed with how the kids did this without putting each other down or criticizing other groups. The other nice things to see was kids trying some ingredients for the 1st time, like cranberries and dried apricots. They are getting much more adventurous.
This week we are going to run practical cooking classes again, this time Apple Crumble (please see the recipe below) Can you please ask your child when their tech day is and remind them to take a container in with them. They need to take the responsibility to do this, and generally most are stepping up and doing so.
Also if you tried out the cookies at home with the kids, please send me in a photo. I would love to see what interesting flavor combinations you come up with.
Have a great week and take care.
Nga Mihi,
Mrs Wigley.
Come and See Tech

Student Showcase
Health and Safety says we can't have everyone inside the Hall at once.
In Term 1 and the start of Term 2 we were very lucky with the weather so were able to enjoy whole-school Student Showcase outside.
However, with the weather closing in, we are not able to safely host Student Showcase in the school hall.
We are currently exploring alternative ideas and will get back to you soon.

Matariki Glow Show
It’s literally legendary! A giant scale puppet show for tamariki with magical glow-in-the-dark characters from Māori myth and legend.
Rich in Te Reo Māori, it’s an upbeat show that has the audience buzzing from the onset. This masterful 40-minute show is underpinned by catchy music that engages the audience immediately, followed by a Q and A session afterwards for our tamariki.
The show tells a delightful story of the Matariki star sisters as they prepare for Te Tau Hou (the Māori New Year) and the journey of the smallest star, Waipuna-a-Rangi. The show has been an absolute hit - the 2018 Matariki Glow Show toured from the Far North to South Auckland and attracted 12,000+ tamariki to 60 shows at 10 venues with many shows sold out!
Matariki Glow Show tour will be at the Theatre Royal, TSB Showplace, June 13 - show times at 10am and 11.30am – 2 shows only so don’t miss out! show is 40 mins long with a Q and A afterwards – meet the actors!
$12.50 child OR adult price! and you can email us back to book hello@glowshow.co.nz OR contact www.ticketdirect.co.nz 0800 224224
