Dear Eatonville School District Students, Families, Staff and Community Members:

It is an honor to serve as the Superintendent of the Eatonville School District.

Who am I? I grew up on a ranch/farm in southeastern Idaho in a community that reminds me of Eatonville. Teton Valley is surrounded by beautiful mountains and hard-working people who care deeply about each other, about the community and about supporting all children. It was a great place to grow up. Much of my success in life stems back to my family, educators and community members who provided me with unwavering support, encouragement and opportunities.

My positive experiences in school eventually led me toward a career in education. I have had the honor of serving students in the Bethel School District for the past 38 years as a school social worker, a fifth-grade teacher, a dean of students, an assistant principal, an acting principal and finally as the director of community connections. I have served in schools ranging from preschool to high school in Roy, Spanaway and Graham. That brings me to my decision to apply for the position of superintendent of Eatonville.

Why did I apply? When my wife and I first moved to this area in 1985, we were immediately impressed with the Eatonville community. Since then, we have developed many friendships with people in this area and have always admired the strong family values that abound in Eatonville. Accordingly, when the superintendent position was posted, I was very interested. I began looking at surveys, engaging in conversations with students, parents, staff and community members to learn more about the rich history of Eatonville, about valued traditions and about the hopes and dreams that parents hold for their children.

Listening to you confirmed what I already believed. Primarily, that the Eatonville community supports students and recognizes the importance of a quality education. Next, that Eatonville students strive to do their best and will, undoubtedly, become our future leaders. Finally, that Eatonville educators are dedicated to all students and do what is necessary to ensure their success. Eatonville is a great place to grow up because of your unwavering support.

Knowing this encouraged me to apply to this position with the hopes of serving all Eatonville students, joining dedicated Eatonville staff members and building trust with all stakeholders.

What do I believe? I believe that our greatest assets are our children. Creating a school system that holds our greatest assets to excellence is essential to a community, to America and to the world. Our children are our future and deserve all the support that we can possibly give them to ensure their success now and after they graduate from high school. For this to happen, we all need to be ALL IN. This includes every student, parent, staff member and community member. When we are all in, we all win.

I also believe that listening and learning create trust, understanding and respect. I look forward to more opportunities to listen and learn from you as I serve the Eatonville School District and this great community.

During the first week of August, we will release a "Welcome Back Newsletter" packed full of information to help prepare everyone for the start of the 23-24 school year.

Eatonville School District is pleased to announce there will be a free, two-day, "Summer Learning Camp" for incoming kindergarten, sixth and ninth grade students.

• Date and Time: Monday, August 14th and Tuesday, August 15th from 9:00am-1:00pm.
• Families will use this link or may scan the QR code on the flyer to register their child for camp. We are extending registration. Please disregard if you already registered.
  
• The camp provides students the opportunity to become familiar with their new campus, meet staff, make new friends and extend their learning. While enjoying a mix of hands-on, outdoor activities students will feel part of a team and will leave excited for the 23-24 school year at their new school.
• All five school buildings will host their own camp. Please direct specific questions to building principals.
• Food service will provide sack lunches for both days.

We are pleased to announce we are offering a new incentive for new bus drivers:

• New applicants who come to the District already holding a CDL with all required school bus endorsements who are recommended for a bus driver position are eligible for a one-time $3,000 salary bonus, once their hire is approved by the school board.
• The $3,000 salary bonus will apply only to drivers who would not need to go through a driver training program in Eatonville.
• New applicants who come to the District, complete the District’s CDL training program, and are recommended for a bus driver position, are eligible for a one-time $2,500 salary bonus, once their hire is approved by the school board.

Will your child be 3 years old by August 31st, 2023? If so, please register for Preschool to secure your child's placement as space is limited. Once we reach our capacity registration will close for next school year.
