All about the MCMS library!
About the Librarian
Hello! This is my fifth year in the Manheim Central School District. I am the library media specialist for the middle school. Prior to MCSD, I spent ten years teaching 7th and 8th grade English at Cocalico Middle School, where I was the yearbook advisor and a miniTHON committee advisor. I also spent a year as an elementary librarian in the Ephrata Area School District.
In addition to my English degree from West Chester University, I also hold a Master’s of Education in Reading and Reading Specialist certification. I have an endorsement in Literacy Coaching and a Library Media Specialist certification. I am currently working on a doctorate in educational leadership from Gwynedd Mercy University. My dissertation topic is on writing generative artificial intelligence tools and plagiarism.
My husband and I have three cats and a dog that we spoil way too much. I LOVE to travel! My most recent trip was to Ireland and Italy in 2024. I also like to shop for shoes - I have over 100 pairs.
Favorites:
Food: French fries, bagels, and popcorn
Drink: iced caramel macchiato
Season: fall
Animal: cat (especially my cats Harper, Max, and Lenny)
Music: Alt Rock or Broadway show tunes
The librarian makes room on the shelves for everyone's story.
Media Center Mission and Vision
Mission
Manheim Central Middle School's Library offers a welcoming and supportive environment, one in which we are committed to making sure all learners are represented in literature and show respect and appreciation of others’ differences. Through inquiry, inclusion, collaboration, curation, and exploration, we ensure learners graduate as competent and ethical users of information technologies with a life-long love of reading, learning, and independent thinking.
Vision
I believe that
- all learners have the freedom to read as their constitutional right which is set forth by the American Library Association's Library Bill of Rights.
- libraries are for inquiry, discovery, study, and enjoyment of books, media, technology, and information
- inquiry, inclusion, collaboration, curation, exploration, and engagement are vital to learning
- informational technology should be used ethically
- learning is a lifelong process
- reading is the key to learning, success, and independent thinking
- every learner deserves to see himself/herself represented in literature
- every learner deserves respect from others and the differences amongst our learners should be respected and appreciated

Day to Day Operations
- The library is open daily from 7:30 AM until 3:00 PM.
- Learners visit the library once a cycle with their ELA class. During this 15 minute time slot, they have book exchange and reading time.
- Learners may check out up to three books at a time. They have two weeks from the date of check out to return or renew the book before it is considered overdue.
- Young Adult books (YA) are available for 7th and 8th graders only as YA books have more mature content. 5th and 6th graders can read these books with a special permission slip from the librarian that is signed by a parent or guardian.
- Learners are able to use the library space to work, read, or study with permission from teachers during class time or Baron Time (BT) as long as there is a librarian present in the library.
- 2 students from each Baron Time may use the allocated passes to come to the library. 5th and 7th graders may come during BT on Days 3 and 5. 6th and 8th graders can come on Days 2 and 5. The library is closed during BT on Days 1 and 4.
General Policies
All materials may be checked out with a school ID number, a first/last name, or a finger scan.
Technology items (iPads, chargers, headphones, tripods, cameras) must be returned the same day unless an exception is made.
In the case that we do not have the book a learner needs, requests can be made through our InterLibrary Loan system.
All checked-out items may be renewed.
Overdue reminders will be sent to the learner's school email and/or Schoology messages. Additional reminders may be mailed home.
While we do not charge fines for overdue materials, learners may be restricted on checking out books until overdue books are returned
Parents may receive emails, phone calls, or notices about the missing book. If a book has been lost or damaged beyond repair, the book must be paid for so it can be replaced for the library.
All learners are invited to see the librarian with specific requests for materials, books, or ebooks they want to see in the library.
eBooks can be checked out through Sora at sorapp.com or through the app. See the attachments below for other ebook options and log in instructions.
The library is for inquiry, discovery, study, and enjoyment of books, media, and information. We ask that learners use, respect, and appreciate all of its resources!
