Having trouble hearing the speakers at the services? We’re HEAR for you!
UUCSJS has installed an FM listening system in the sanctuary! This will make our services more accessible for people having trouble hearing at our services. We now have six receivers with headsets that are hygienically covered with disposable earpads. We also have one electromagnetic neck loop for use with hearing aids that have a magnetic telephone coil. The system is expandable if there is the demand. If you would like to have your own personal unit set aside for you, David Weesner can fill you in on the details.
Sunday, September 11, David will stay after the service to show off the FM system’s capabilities and how to maximize their benefit for your individual needs. He will also be available before the service to help you use them right away. We are excited for the new addition that will help let everyone enjoy our worship! (If you like to put the captions on for the British shows, you may really like this!)

Accommodations Needed
Two members of the UU fellowship of the Poconos will be visiting family near Cape May soon and are wondering if someone in our congregation has a bedroom to let for 2 nights. They would make a donation to our congregation as payment for the room.
They state they are quiet folks both in their 70's, no pets or smoking, and are able to climb stairs. They haven't shared their exact travel dates yet but if you are interested in helping out, please email admin@uucsjs.org for their contact information.
Book Club will be returning in September!
We will be meeting on Friday, September 16th at 7:00 pm on ZOOM (www.tinyurl.com/uucsjszoom). The book for September is Facing the Mountain.
FACING THE MOUNTAIN by Daniel James Brown
A True Story of Japanese American Heroes in World War II chronicles the lives of three soldiers who distinguished themselves under fire in Italy, France, and Germany, and one conscientious objector who was imprisoned for protesting U.S. policies that saw some 120,000 Japanese Americans incarcerated in interment camps.
Our UUCSJS Book List for 2022/23 has been revised, please refer to revised list below.
Thank you,

Back to School Supplies
Collection extended until September 11, 2022!
Are you looking for another way to donate your treasures?
It’s almost back to school time! The Eastern Service Workers Association (ESWA) is once again collecting “backpack” school supplies for 200 needy families.
This is another way for us as a congregation to show our support for this grass roots organization.
There will be a box in the foyer for you to place your donations. ESWA is collecting the following school supplies:
- Big Erasers,
- paper,
- pencils,
- binders,
- calculators,
- pencil cases,
- crayons,
- pencil sharpeners,
- folders,
- protractors,
- highlighters,
- markers,
- scissors,
- spiral notebooks,
- mini staplers,
- tape.
They also accept cash that will help them purchase the backpacks (at a discount) and any of the other supplies that are needed.
On Going Collections
Looking for ideas on what to bring?
Here are some items CARA (The Coalition Against Rape and Abuse) is in need of:

Flowers for the Chalice Table
With great gratitude, thank you, Darleen Ledbetter, Helen Utts, and Janet Longo for your floral arrangement set upon our chalice table for all to celebrate in togetherness.
If you would like to donate flowers for our chalice table, please schedule with Colby. You're welcome to take the arrangement home or we can find a new home!

New Soul Matters Small Groups
Are you looking for more connection to our UU faith? Want to connect with other members of UUCSJS?
Each month we dig in, explore, learn, and grow in our UU theology through a monthly Soul Matters theme. The theme runs through all areas of ministry from worship, to children's religious education, our family faith at home program, our social media and website, and even our monthly FUUN events! We now have the opportunity to extend this exploration and growth through small group ministry!
Groups are forming now and options are available to meet in person or online. A sign up sheet is available in the back of the sanctuary or you can email Jess for more information: religiouseducation@uucsjs.org.

Water Communion Service
Presented by guest speaker Rev. Carol Haag
The congregation regathers after summer activities that may have slowed or changed our pace. We regather in the spirit of the fall equinox, seeking balance in our lives. We regather to share the most universal and essential element of the earth: water. You are invited to think about the place of water in your life and to bring a sample to share in a community bowl.
About Carol: Rev. Carol S. Haag retired after 13 years as the religious educator (DRE and MRE) with The Unitarian Church (now Beacon) in Summit, NJ. Since then, she has served on the Murray Grove board, as member, President, and currently chairs its Development Committee. She is a strong advocate for Universalism as the central, vital force in our Unitarian Universalist movement. She believes that Universalism embodies the critical message of inclusion for our time.
PLEASE NOTE: This service will be in person at UUCSJS and streamed live on our Facebook page. A recording will be available later in the day on our YouTube Channel.
*Masks are currently optional at UUCSJS.
