Peterborough Elementary School
October 20, 2023
Dear Families and Friends,
I hope this newsletter finds you well.
A highlight for me this week was seeing Ms. Hodge's 3rd grade class perform a puppet play of the story The Big Pumpkin by Erica Silverman for Ms. Perullo's pre-K class. The 3rd graders headed down to the pre-k classroom on Thursday to put on a show for our youngest Bobcats (see above). Today, the class performed the story in front of the entire school at our All-School Meeting. What courage! Thanks to the teachers and the students for making this happen.
Speaking of plays, Conval High School has invited us to see a play performance of Finding Nemo Jr. at CVHS on Friday, November 3rd. Please be on the lookout for a permission slip from your child's teacher.
Finally, I want to let you know that next week will be our office adminsitrative assistant, Jill Shearer's, last week at PES. Ms. Shearer has been the smiling, welcoming, professional face, voice, and first contact for many families and staff at PES for a number of years (longer than I have been here). She has served the entire PES community with kindness, compassion, professionalism and dignity. She will surely be missed, and we all wish her the best on her next adventure. Thank you, Jill, for all you have done to make PES a better place!
Have a great weekend,
Larry Pimental
Student Directory Information
PES has created a student directory. It includes class lists, student and parent/guardian names, and parent/guardian email information. If you are interested in getting one, please let us know by emailing cbell@conval.edu.
Reading Buddies
This week Mrs. Topping's 1st grade class and Ms. Hodge's third grade class teamed up to do some flashlight reading. Mrs. Topping has quite a collection of Halloween books and reading them in the dark really turned up the fun factor!
Read for the Record
This upcoming Thursday, October 26, the whole school will be participating in an early literacy initiative called “Read for the Record.” This is a global shared read-aloud experience with a book called, “With Lots of Love.” Last year 2.1 million children participated across the globe. Classes are looking for family members to come in and read the story aloud and assist with a related activity with a multi-age group that morning from 9-10. If you are interested, pleas contact your child's teacher. You can view the book and learn more at Read for the Record.
Halloween Parade
We are planning a costume parade through downtown Peterborough on Halloween leaving PES around 1:45. Students should come to school in their normal school clothes. There will be time to change into their costumes before the parade, and costumes should be easy for children to put on (please no make up or anything that requires extra ordinary assistance). Because this is a school event, costumes accessories like toy weapons, bats, batons, light sabers, etc. and anything gory should remain at home. Also, some masks can make walking difficult and even dangerous, so please consider leaving those at home as well. If you prefer to not have your child march, please let me know. We will have staff and activities at school for those who remain on campus. As we get closer, more details will be provided. If your child is in need of a costume, please give me a call. I may be able to help. If you have extra costumes that you no longer need, we will take them.
Parent Conferences- November 7, 2023
Please know that Parent-Teacher Conference Day is planned for Tuesday, November 7th. There is no school for students on this day. Parents should be hearing from their children's teachers in the coming days/weeks to set up conference times. We look forward to seeing you.
