KIA ORA VOGELTOWN WHANAU
Kia ora Vogeltown whānau, welcome to the newsletter for Week 7 of Term 3. It has been another very busy week. Welcome to Spring (according to dates), the sunshine and extra warmth has certainly made for a lot more outside learning and fun - it really has lifted the spirits after a wet winter!
This week we had the Life Education truck at our school along with the awesome teacher, Mrs Megan Lilley and Harold the Giraffe. Our kids have really enjoyed their time 'inside the truck' and have come away with some fantastic learning. The Life Ed truck leaves us on Tuesday, and we will be looking forward to Harold and Megan coming back in 2024.
A big thanks to everyone who came along last night to our 'open night'. We have only just begun doing this as a school to encourage another chance for whanau to come in and have a look around without any set agenda. It was a perfect evening last night - we even had the Life Ed truck open. Any feedback - improvements, ideas, on this night, please email me at principal@vogeltown.school.nz
We continue to have a lot of sickness at school - although I feel we have got through the worst of it (looking at our attendance data below). Just a reminder, if your child is sick and feels unwell, then please keep them home to recover and notify the office - we really appreciate it has been a very 'trying' winter.
Next week we begin the 'Fresh Air Challenge' - see the poster below. The next 2 weeks is all about encouraging the kids (and whanau) to find ways of coming to school that doesn't involve the car. Each day our Class reps will survey each class to find out which class has made the most 'Fresh Air'. We are also competing against other local schools - we would love to win this in 2023!
We are looking forward to Cross Country - make sure you check the times below, but we would love to see all whanau here for the 'Whanau colour run' at the junior school at 2pm - the more the merrier!
A happy Fathers day to all our Matua out there for Sunday - may your Fathers Day be better than your jokes!

SCHOOL GOAL THIS TERM - BE A RESPECTFUL VOGELTOWNER
ATTENDANCE AT VOGELTOWN - Week 7
Research shows that regular attendance benefits academic achievement, the development of social skills and competencies and friendships. If children are unwell or absent, please inform the office. If there are other factors that are impacting attendance please contact us so that we can work together. The Ministry of Education benchmark for regular attendance is 70% of students attending school 90% of the time. At Vogeltown School we meet this target on most weeks, this week we sit at 87% - see the graph below. There has been a lot of flu and cold bugs going around.
