Star Spotlight ✨
To allow our Centennial families to get to know more about the achievements of Star students, we will be highlighting a different student in our weekly newsletters. They will have an opportunity to share some fun facts about themselves as well as convey some of their most recent accomplishments.
Do you know of a student who deserves a spotlight? Send an email to our Family Ambassador, Aneeka Bashir abashir@columbus.k12.oh.us, with their name and grade so they can be featured in an upcoming newsletter!
Kayshawn Harris
With his passion for baseball, fun personality, and ambitious nature, Kayshawn Harris is undoubtedly the definition of a Star! We can't wait to see the incredible achievements that lie ahead for this dynamic student-athlete.
Q: What sports do you participate in, and how did you become involved in them?
A: Baseball, I started playing at the age of 6. My dad handed me a baseball and we went to a practice at a local baseball field and saw people playing. It made me really excited to run around and play, and I liked having something in common with my dad. I have been loving it since the moment I first touched a baseball.
Q: Can you share a memorable moment or achievement from your athletic pursuits?
A: Baseball season was coming up and I tore my ACL. I didn’t get a chance to play the previous season, but I fully recovered in August, so I was able to play in Fall Ball and showcase my skills. It was my first practice back and everyone was so excited to have me back on the team with my friends and teammates. It is my senior year, so I am glad I get a final chance to play with my friends before we all go to different colleges.
Q: Are there specific individuals or role models who inspire you in your academic and extracurricular pursuits?
A: My mom and dad. They have been pushing me to do better. At first, I was a kid who didn’t care about grades and my first year of high school was COVID so I didn’t try very hard. My parents continued to push me the past few years, which resulted in me getting accepted into 3 D2 schools, being on honor roll, and encouraging me to be who I am today and always strive to be better.
