Dear Parents & Guardians,
We are progressing through historic times, and I thank everyone for their patience and flexibility as we work toward our common goal of doing the right thing, for the right reason, at the right time.
As I compose this correspondence, there are still no presumptive positive cases of COVID-19 in Chester County. As you must know, Governor Wolf announced yesterday that schools in our neighboring Montgomery County would close, as well as other recreational and entertainment areas in that county.
Owen J. Roberts School District has been working with the Chester County Department of Health, the Pennsylvania Department of Education, our legislative representatives, the Governor’s office, and in coordination with district leadership across Chester County. Due to conditions in our neighboring counties, we need to be ready to close schools for a more extended period (beyond Monday, March 16). To help families feel prepared for that potential, our building principals will be sharing our optional Short Term Remote Learning Plans today.
Our buildings will be open today and Monday from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. should students or staff members need to retrieve materials.
Please continue to check the district website for the most up-to-date information. The health and safety of students and staff is our top priority and, once again, we appreciate your patience and support.
Sincerely,
Dr. Susan T. Lloyd
Superintendent of Schools
Our Week In Review
Writing: This week students read a story titled, The Mystery Club. Students created an outline with evidence analyzing how the mystery club was important to all characters in the story. They also had an opportunity to break apart the scoring rubric for Text Dependent Analyses.
Reading: This week in reading, we continue our poetry studies. We are learning about figurative language, the elements of poetry, and how to decipher the meaning of poems.
Math: This week in math we learned how to multiply fractions by whole numbers. We also learned about gallons, quarts, pints, and cups. We now know how to convert between these different measures.
Science: This week in science Ms. Hertzog and Ms. Johnson’s classes finished their study of magnetism and took their quiz. They will soon begin their ecosystems studies!
Mrs. Kulp and Ms. Cohen’s class continued with their study of energy and are quickly wrapping up their unit before beginning ecosystems as well.
