Hello October
Happy Hispanic Heritage Month
National Hispanic Heritage Month traditionally honors the cultures and contributions of both Hispanic and Latino Americans as we celebrate heritage rooted in all Latin American countries.
Sieden Prairie celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month with a special spirit week! Each day students wear different clothing representing the Hispanic/Latino culture. Pictures show “Traditional Clothing Day” from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, or Central or South America. Also, students celebrated “Mexico Day,” by wearing white, red, and green to represent Mexico’s flag.

SPOTLIGHT ON THE CLASSROOM
Kindergarten Takes Flight
Welcome aboard Kindergarten families! You have boarded Sieden Prairie Elementary School flight K1 and K2 for your kindergarten journey. Sit back, relax, and enjoy our exciting flight!
Pre-Fight Safety Check
In the pre-flight safety check, the kindergarten classes have been working hard to adjust to their new routines and learn school emergency procedures. They are also learning how to stay safe during recess and follow directions during lunch time.
Prepare for Take Off and Cruising Altitude
Let’s get ready to explore and learn! The scholars have been learning to recognize and write all upper- and lower-case letters as well as learning the sounds they make; identify beginning sounds and rhyming words. Additionally, our scholars are working hard on reading sight words and demonstrating their understanding of book knowledge by naming parts of a book. In writing, the kindergarteners are working on learning the meaning of nouns and verbs as well as understanding how they’re connected. The students are also working on writing their first name and how to write an opinion sentence.
Math time! The scholars have been working on counting to 20 and recognizing numbers 0-9. They are also learning how to write numbers up to 9 and compare 2 sets of objects. Also, the students have started working on adding numbers using TEN frames.
In Science, the students are learning about what people, plants, and animals need to survive. We successfully completed our first STEM project. The scholars planted a lima bean and tracked the outcome of its growth after applying 3 variables.
During Social Studies the kindergarteners are learning about rules and community leaders. Additionally, we are learning to build our social-emotional skills.
In Flight Entertainment
What are we doing for fun? We are planning an exciting field trip to The Children’s Farm in the month of November. The students will have an opportunity to interact with the farm animals and enjoy a peaceful hayride. We also have fun during our Social Emotional Learning movement time.
Final Destination
We are working hard to prepare our scholars for a smooth landing into 1st grade, and we need you to be a part of this journey!

Good Afternoon all!
Well, can you believe it’s the 6th week of school already?? Things have been super busy already this year! Let me first start out by introducing myself as your students' technology teacher this year and also inform you that I plan on sending weekly Friday messages through Remind to update you on the progress we are making with lessons in the lab. Over the past few weeks, we have focused on Digital Citizenship-learning how to be safe, respectful, and responsible when using our devices. We have learned lessons ranging from safe websites, to private and personal information, knowing what to share and who to speak with and how to deal and report bullies online. These lessons will hopefully equip your students with the knowledge needed to be the best versions of themselves while being present in the online world. Next week, we will be finishing up Digital Citizenship as well as some classes will begin work on keyboarding and hand placement. The goal is for kindergarten to learn the letters of their keyboard and for grades 1-5 to build up their computer skills.

PBIS IS COOL AT SIEDEN PRAIRIE SCHOOL
IT'S POSITIVE BEHAVIOR IN SCHOOL
& BE RESPONSIBLE
Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) Team is working together to build up our school into a successful learning environment for all. Sieden Prairie students are showing expected behavior and being acknowledged by their teachers. The month of September was being Responsible and showing manners. We had 88 students earn a free dress down day this month and students can turn in their Mustang Loyalty card for items in our Mustang Rewards Store. Pictured: Kindergartener from Ms. Mison's class cashed in her 5 punches for a necklace. Teachers were acknowledged with a kind note and a treat for a job well done for the Month of September. This coming Month we will be focusing on Respect and Anti-Bullying.
Two Thumbs Up for PBIS

Restorative Justice
Discipline Approach
Reference the Parent/Student Handbook Online
We approach discipline by way of using restorative practices. We are concerned with the student(s) and their well-being. We have restorative practices in place in which we impress upon the student(s) the importance of taking responsibility for their own actions and to work together with other students to find ways to resolve conflict and make better choices. We also follow three PBIS rules which are Be Safe, Be Respectful, and Be Responsible.
See You Soon!
Bye for Now
