Our end of year benchmark assessments will begin next week. This is a great opportunity for us to see the growth and progress of our students from the September until now. Every grade level has at least one type of assessment. This includes:

• Kindergarten - Illinois Snapshot of Early Literacy, aimsweb Early Literacy battery of assessments
• 1st Grade -- aimsweb Early Literacy batter of assessments
• 2nd - 5th Grade -- NWEA/MAP Reading and Math assessments and aimsweb Reading battery of assessments.

We will also gather information about the social-emotional skills of our students through the Panorama SEL survey. This is the same survey which was administered in the fall and the winter. Our 3rd-5th graders complete their own rating (self-assess) while our K-2nd grade teachers weigh in to give their feedback and impressions about our younger students.

Join us on Saturday, May 20, or Tuesday, May 23 for a Town Hall Meeting on District 37 Facilities. Learn about the current state of Avoca school buildings, their needs, and options to address those needs. The sessions will conclude with you and other attendees providing feedback so the Board can chart a successful course for our schools. Bring a neighbor or two! Refreshments will be provided. Registration is now open! Parents/guardians/caregivers of returning students should have received an email earlier this week from Registration Support (noreply@noreply.psrsupport.com). Please email registration@avoca37.org if you did not receive the email or if you have any questions.

🚌 If your student will be taking the bus to school, the deadline to register without paying a penalty is June 30th. There will also be a cutoff date for bus registration in August so that we can be sure we have ample time to do bus routes for the start of the school year. Thanks for your help in making sure we are ready to roll!

2023-2024 SCHOOL SUPPLY LISTS for Avoca West and Marie Murphy are now available for the upcoming school year! Click here to view the lists. Easy to Order school supply packs will also be available for purchase through EPI. Everything your child will need in the fall will be taken care of and will be waiting in the classroom their first day of school! No need to shop for the list of items! The packs are at a 12% discount, proceeds benefit the PTC. You can purchase supplies through EPI HERE (code AVO021)

Our student leaders met last week to come up with a special AVOCA WEST countdown for the end of school. They'll be advertising it within the school, but here's a heads up to our community. The countdown begins June 1st!

A - Athletics (sports gear or favorite team)

V - Vintage (wear something old or dress from a different decade)

O - Outside (extra recess, time to learn and play outside)

C - Culture (share a piece of your culture, special tradition, or something that makes you unique)

A - Arts and Crafts (chalk, draw, nurture your artistic side!)

W - Still up for grabs. Wacky Day...Let's get WILD...it's Field Day!

E - Entertainment (movie, board games, and 5th grade party)

S - Still up for grabs. Stay in Bed (PJs &. comfy), Sign Away (yearbooks), Snacks, School Spirit

T - Tropical

May 29th -- NO SCHOOL - Memorial Day!

June 7th -- Caregiver Info Night at Marie Murphy for incoming 6th grade (No students, please)

June 8th -- Kindergarten-4th grade Field Day

June 13th -- Last Day of School!
