Letter from the Principal
Dear Corbett Families and Students,
As we come to the end of Trimester 1, I am very proud of the progress we are making in many areas of our school community. Leadership students put on a well-attended homecoming dance, with an excellent music production by our own Theo VanDam. Most fall sports have wrapped up, and volleyball is competing in the state tournament in Springfield. The Student Council has been asking great questions, and I appreciate their voice in issues that impact all of us.
I believe that one of our main purposes as a high school is to support students in developing skills and behaviors that will allow them to be successful in the workplace: from being on time to interacting with colleagues in a professional manner. As educators, we understand that our role is to teach and reinforce not only content, but also the soft skills that employers will be looking for. In fact, the content is probably secondary to the skills needed to learn and adapt to different environments.
One skill that seems to be more important than ever in the workplace is the ability to recognize inappropriate situations, and have the courage to bring a concerning issue to a supervisor, with the trust that the issue will be addressed. While we do work on this through homeroom curriculum, student clubs, affinity groups, class discussion, and with individual students, we have situations that arise in our school that demonstrate that we still have work to do.
I would like to reinforce with students and parents to communicate with us as soon as possible about any incident involving racist language, harassment, or bullying. Students can talk to their parents, their teachers, their counselors, or myself. It is easy for us to deal with a physical altercation between students, as we are fairly quick to identify the situation. What can be more challenging are the verbal exchanges between students that we don’t witness, which can be equally unacceptable in a school setting or a workplace. Our goal is not to punish but to educate, and when necessary, to repair relationships between students.
I am thankful to work in Corbett, as I firmly believe the partnership between families and our educators will produce outstanding people who will have the skills and knowledge to not only be successful in their own lives, but to contribute to the strength of our communities.
Go Cards!

HS Principal

Esports Dominates Fall Season
Team ranks second in West Coast Vanta High School League
The Corbett Esports team currently ranks second in the West Coast Vanta High School League, competing against OR/WA/CA schools. The team includes TheoVanDam, Lizzie Loveland, Jack Kirnan, Joey Kirnan, Ben White, Tucker Rathjen and Ethan Pinedo. Playing League of Legends, the team is 4-1, plus two preseason wins. The team was undefeated last year. According to coach Mr. Binschus, the victories have been decisive. After each game, the team reviews gameplay and determines how to improve. Captain Joey Kirnan, "ASK FOR QUOTE." Based on the way they've been playing, the coach expects the winning to continue. This fall season is an unofficial season. During the official season in February, the team will compete against local high schools in East Metro County. Find out more in the video below. Corbett's Lizzie Loveland is featured at 4:45 in the video.
Scholarship Opportunity
The Marcia H. Randall Scholarship Fund supports graduates of Corbett High School (or the equivalent – GED recipients or home-schooled, if residents of Corbett) for use in pursuit of postsecondary education at public or private nonprofit colleges (including community colleges) or universities in the United States. While there is a preference for arts/music interest, it’s not a requirement and all eligible Corbett HS students are encouraged to apply.
Applications for the next cycle are accepted starting today: November 1, 2023 – April 1, 2024. The application process is through OSAC, so students can apply for this with a common application for a variety of scholarships they may be eligible for. The Marcia H. Randall Scholarship Fund has an average award amount of about $3,000, and students will also be able to be considered for other scholarship awards through OSAC that can add to their total scholarship funding. The Marcia H. Randall Fund awards are also renewable through the same OSAC application process, for up to as many as 18 academic quarters or 12 academic semesters.
Because Corbett is a relatively small community and high school, this scholarship has had a small number of new applicants in the past few annual cycles.
Fall Band Concerts
Join us in the high school gym on Wednesday, 11/15 at 7 p.m.
The Corbett Bands will be performing their Fall Concert on Wednesday, November 15th at 7:00pm in the HS Main Gym. This concert will feature the Middle School Band and both High School bands. All families and community members are encouraged to attend. The bands will perform a great mixture of historic, contemporary and popular repertoire, including Gustav Holst's First Suite in E-flat and Sleigh Ride, by Leroy Anderson.
Movie Night on December 1
Support Cardinal Dynamics
The Corbett High School robotics team, Cardinal Dynamics, is hosting a movie night fundraiser on Friday, December 1st in the HS commons. It will be a "double feature" with The Polar Express showing from 4-6pm and from 7-9pm Elf will be shown. All are welcome and admission is free. There will be a raffle, concessions and other goodies for purchase, and other activities to participate in. For more information, email robotics@corbett.k12.or.us
Volleyball wins 3A Sportsmanship Award
Season ended Saturday at the state tournament
Corbett Volleyball battled at the final 8 3A State Tournament! Lost to #1 Sisters Friday morning and lost a tough 5 set close match to Burns for a shot at 4th on Saturday morning. Proud of this team for how far they have come and for how they came together today to leave it all on the court. Great season, Cards! ❤️🏐. Although the games did not end how the team hoped, Corbett did win the 3A Sportsmanship Award!
