Principal's Message
11/01/2022
It's already November! We are about halfway through the 2nd quarter of school. Thank you to those of you that made it to parent conferences. Just a reminder, teachers are still available to meet, as questions arise throughout the year. Please email your student's teacher to schedule a meeting or a quick call regarding your student.
Hopefully, by now, your student has gotten accustomed to their teachers and have developed some good study habits! If they haven't, now is a great time to start! As parents and caretakers of older students, we tend to sit back, and let our students tell us how they are doing and trust that they are taking the steps needed to be successful in school. However, some of our students may also need guidance. I have noticed that some students are nervous talking to adults and will sometimes opt to NOT ask a question of their teacher. Something to practice at home are communication skills. Ask your student - how and when will you speak to your teacher, what will the question be? Communicating is a life skill that we can work on at home with our students, and some need to practice - just to make sure that their message or question is understood.
We are asking families to avoid texting or calling your student during the school day - especially during class. Students have a hard time disconnecting from their phones and it becomes a distraction in the classroom. Please check the bell schedule or communicate with them during the lunch period. We are trying to help students navigate distractions, and if it isn't truly an emergency, we ask that you wait to contact your student.
There is a group of parents interested in starting a schoolwide Parent-Teacher Organization. If you are interested in joining, please contact our parent liaison, Imelda Navarro via email at inavarro@tusd.net.
We are requesting that all students download the 5 star app on their phones or school devices. This is one way we can send information to all students quickly. It also helps us track student attendance to labs and events.
We still have the Reading Challenge for our community (this includes you, families!). It's been proven that the more a student reads, the more success they will have in school! Please encourage them to take part in this challenge - and challenge yourself, as well.
Lastly, the monthly newsletter is a live document - this means that it is updated regularly with information and dates throughout the month. Please come back periodically to check to see if there is anything new going on. We will also send this out as a link via email or text (so please make sure your contact info is up to date in AERIES!)
Thank you, families, for your support from home. Our goal is for every student to be successful and the partnership between school and home is a vital component to this success, so thank you!
Until next month...
