From the Middle EMS and ELA
News from the Principal, January 28, 2021
Hello Parents and Families,
February is just around the corner, which actually means time to start digging into plans for next year. Our 8th graders will meet with the HS counselors next week to get information about registration for high school. Watch for more information from Englewood High School.
Our current 6th and 7th graders will begin registration in about a month--more details will be provided soon.
If at any time you need anything, please do not hesitate to reach out.

Basketball Begins!
Because of Covid19, basketball will look very different this year. With the restrictions in place
and sanctions set forth by TriCounty Health we’re only allowed 10 athletes in the gym at a time.
We will be organizing camps during the season split between boys and girls. Boys will be
working out on Mondays/Wednesdays and girls on Tuesdays/Thursdays. Kids will be assigned
days to practice.
All participants must adhere to the following:
- Masks must be worn the entire practice
- Social distancing of 6 feet will remain in effect
- Athletes must use their own water bottles – no sharing
- There will be no late bus. Students will need to be picked up no later than 5:00pm
- No leaving practice and returning. Athletes must remain for the entire practice
- Temperature checks and screening questions before EACH practice
QUARANTINES AND ROLLING REMOTE LEARNING
When we have a COVID case, you will receive one letter specific to your student's situation:
Letter One--your student was exposed and needs to quarantine (in most cases, this is isolated to just one cohort)
OR
Letter Two--your student was not exposed, but needs to attend school online in "rolling remote." This means that your student's cohort was not exposed, but we do not have the staff available to continue in-person learning during the quarantine.
I will also send a letter to the entire community just to keep everyone informed--this letter is for those who are not impacted by the quarantine or rolling remote.
When students are on "rolling remote" learning, school is still mandatory and zoom meetings are required for students to be counted present (please see below).
Remote Learning Reminders
If your student or household is dealing with Covid, please leave a message on our attendance line so we can continue to track Covid in our community.
- Students who do not login will be counted absent.
- Students need to be on time to their zoom call. Missing too much of the Zoom call will result in an absence.
- If your child will not be present in remote learning, please call the attendance line to excuse their absence (within 24 hours of the absence).
- One point of confusion for students has been which day and which zoom. We are on a rotation schedule just like we were while in-person. If students struggle with getting on Zoom, they should email their teachers immediately so teachers can help problem-solve.

Upcoming Sports Seasons
Volleyball 2021
Girls volleyball season will be starting the beginning of March. Like basketball, we do not know
if we be allowed to participate against other schools. Be looking for more info.
Track 2021
As of now, we are anticipating having a track season. We will be competing against other
schools. The difference this year is that the meets will be smaller than in the past and there is a
chance we MAY not be able to have spectators. Track will be starting just after Spring Break. IF
YOUR STUDENT WISHES TO PARTICIPATE IN TRACK THEY WILL NEED TO HAVE A SPORTS
PHYSICAL! More info to come.
