Dear Golden Hills Families,

We hope that you and your family had an enjoyable Thanksgiving break.

Thank you to all the families who attended the Golden Hills Arts Showcase and Family Picnic! We love seeing all of you on campus!

A huge thank you to The Cow Cafe & Grill for donating 4 pies for the picnic. The fundraiser earned money for our end of the year event sponsored by the Parent Teacher Group!

We are just three short weeks away from the winter break. We will be working hard these next three weeks and hope your student will be here everyday!

Golden Hills Goal;

In the first trimester both grade levels had set SMART goals for our students. The SMART in SMART goals stands for Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-Bound.

Fourth Grade 22/23:

Reading:

• By the end of the 1st trimester we will have 60% of our students at/above/1 grade level below in reading

End of First Trimester: Met Goal!!!

• Math

• By the end of the 1st trimester we will have 65% of our students at/above/1 grade level below

End of First Trimester: 64% students met the goal! SO close!

Fifth Grade SMART Goal 22/23

• By the end of trimester 1, 50% or more of the students will be no more than one grade level below on their overall iReady diagnostic scores for both math and reading.

End of first Trimester: Reading and Math Goal MET!!!

First Trimester Awards Assemblies are on Thursday, December 8th! Your student's teacher will let you know if your student is receiving an award. New this Year: Golden Hills Honor Roll: students who score 90% and above in math and reading in class percentages and reading at least one grade level below their grade level or at level and above!

This month our Golden Eagle Award winners will be announced on Monday, December 12th!

We have started a new mindset in our 7 Mindsets curriculum. The 100% Accountable Mindset. Being 100% Accountable means that students will take responsibility for their choices and practice overcoming limiting beliefs. Students will learn to focus their time on the learning skills that will help them grow through life.

The holiday season can be a stressful time. It can also be a time for families to spend more time together and reconnect. Here are just a few tips for parents on managing holiday stress:

Set expectations: Talk to your kids about expectations for gifts and holiday activities. Be open with them if money is an issue. Use this as an opportunity to teach them about the value of money and responsible spending. Be realistic. Take small concrete steps to deal with holiday tasks instead of overwhelming yourself with goals that are too far reaching for a busy time.

Keep things in perspective: Try to consider stressful situations in a broader context and keep a long-term perspective. Avoid blowing events out of proportion. Teach your kids how to keep things in perspective, including what type of and the number of gifts they receive.

Make connections: Good relationships with family and friends are important. View the holidays as a time to reconnect with people. It’s okay to accept help and support from those who care about you. Volunteering at a local charity with your kids is a good way to connect with others or assist someone in need and teach your kids the value of helping others.

Take care of yourself: Pay attention to your own needs and feelings during the holiday season. Engage in activities that you and your family enjoy and find relaxing. Taking care of yourself helps keep your mind and body healthy and primed to deal with stressful situations. Consider cutting back television viewing for kids and instead, get the family out together. It promotes activity and takes kids away from sedentary time and possible influence from advertisements.

The Laser Show was SO MUCH Fun! The students loved singing along to the songs while the laser art was displayed. The Laser Show was our first trimester attendance challenge. All students who had less than 6 unexcused absences were invited to attend.

Congratulations to classes:

Borquez, Chapman, Corkin, Dailey, Sharp, Smith, Weston for having above 95% attendance from October 10th until November 30th! These classes earned an invitation to the Ice Cream Social. Plus we added all students who had 90% or above attendance from 10/10/22-11/30/22.

The second trimester Attendance Challenge has begun! On March 9th we will have a STEAM museum on campus. Please click here to learn more: CLick here

To be invited to participate in the STEAM museum the requirements are:

Less than 11 absences (excused or unexcused) for the entire school year

OR

Less than 6 (excused or unexcused) absences from 11/29-3/8/23

If your child is absent please call the school office to let them know the reason so that your child can possibly be excused.Also, if your child will be absent for 3 or more days you can request independent study. Your child will receive work to do and if the work is completed, your child will receive credit for attendance and will not be counted as absent. If you have questions, please call the school office.

Attendance is very important, if your student is not at school, they cannot learn. Thank you for your support!

Shady Creek is a three night, four day environmental camp. Our fifth grade class is attending January 10th-13th . The camps goal is to develop a feeling of personal responsibility to help preserve, conserve, and enhance our environment; developing heightened observation skills to appreciate the beauty and diversity of the natural world; and developing a feeling of self-confidence and self-acceptance while also instilling the ability to cooperate with and appreciate the diversity of others.

Golden HIlls has been recognized as PLC Model School! What is a PLC Model School?

To qualify as a Model PLC, a school must:

• Demonstrate a commitment to PLC at Work® concepts

Professional learning community (PLC) An ongoing process in which educators work collaboratively in recurring cycles of collective inquiry and action research to achieve better results for the students they serve. Professional learning communities operate under the assumption that the key to improved learning for students is continuous job-embedded learning for educators.

• Implement those concepts for at least three years

• Present clear evidence of improved student learning

• Provide data on a yearly basis that shows they continue to meet the criteria of the PLC at Work process

We have tests available for pick-up at each of the school site so families can have them available during the holiday season!
