What's Happening in Social Studies
6th Grade Social Studies
In Social Studies 6 our students have finished their study of ancient Greece and now are focusing on ancient Rome and how it went from a republic to an empire. One key story around this change revolves around a man named Julius Caesar. As a result, we are using Caesar as a focus for our C.B.A. C.B.A. stands for Classroom Based Assessment and is a research project in which students gather information about a historical topic and then create a 5 paragraph essay about the chosen topic. Students have been working hard to complete this project and it has been interesting to see students tackle this challenging task. Next week is our last week together as students are wrapping up the first semester and will soon be leaving their social studies classes. It has been a great semester and we hope that students learned much about history. Good luck to everyone as they head into the new semester!
7th Grade Social Studies
7th graders are wrapping up their study of Medieval times around the work. They are excited to embark on their 2nd semester study of Washington State History!
8th Grade Social Studies
8th grade US History classes finishing up the American Revolution and are starting on their US Government unit looking at why people create governments, what's needed for a government and how our government is structured. We will study the amendments to the constitution and use our knowledge to delve deeper into the constitution using OSPI's Constitutional Issue Classroom Based Assessment in February. During this research project, students will introduce various claims and develop an argument about a public issue, using evidence from primary sources, secondary sources, and discussions from class.
