A Great Start To The Year!
What a great beginning to the 2023-24 school year! Students spent the first few days of school reviewing school-wide expectations, learning about their teachers and peers, practicing safety drills, and completing some team building activities with their advisory classmates. The week culminated with an all-school pep assembly. The students competed against each other in minute to win it activities, then the grade level champions went up against various Jay Stream staff. The students had no problem beating staff in all four events! Here are some action shots from the pep assembly.
Students To Take Reading i-Ready Diagnostic On Tuesday
All students will take their i-Ready diagnostic test on Tuesday morning with their advisory classes. You can see the the testing schedule below. After the completion of the diagnostic test, each student will be assigned a personalized path that addresses learning gaps. Parents/guardians will get copies of their student's test results in September.
Student Drop Off & Pick Up Procedures
If you are picking up or dropping off your student, please remember to enter Jay Stream's west parking lot off of Hiawatha Drive and follow the one way traffic flow. The entrance to the south parking lot of off El Paso Lane is for busses only. Please view the map below or contact the office with any questions.
Arrival
Please enter the west parking lot off of Hiawatha Drive. Follow the car in front of you and wait for instructions from Jay Stream staff. Once your car comes to a complete stop in the drop off zone, your student should exit the car.
DISMISSAL
Cars that arrive early for student dismissal will be asked to loop around and wait in the 2nd row. This row has 2 lines for you to wait from. The inside line is a waiting line. Cars in this line do not move until they see their student ready to be picked up. The outside line runs in a continuous loop, giving families an opportunity to circle back around if their student is not yet out when they travel through the line the first time. Cars are not allowed to park in spaces in the lot while waiting for their student.
SAFETY
Students must wait to enter a car until their ride has come to a complete stop inside the pickup area. Students who get picked up off campus must cross with the crossing guard at Hiawatha & Illini.
Student Handbook Highlight - Student Dress
The Jay Stream student handbook can be found at the front of every student's agenda. Agendas are scheduled to be delivered tomorrow. Students will be shown where they can find the handbook. All students reviewed the dress code policy with administration this past week. It is also the focus of this week's student handbook highlight.
CCSD93 expects that all students will dress in a way that is appropriate for the school day or for any school sponsored event. A basic principle of the CCSD93 dress code is that certain body parts must be covered at all times. Clothes must be worn in a way that opaque fabric covers the student from just below the shoulders to below the student's bottom.
Students may wear, as long as these items do not violate what is written above:
Hats - Hats must allow the face to be visible to staff, and not interfere with the line of sight of any student or staff.
Religious headwear.
Fitted pants, including opaque leggings, yoga pants and “skinny jeans”.
Ripped jeans, as long as underwear and buttocks are not exposed.
Tank tops, including spaghetti straps; halter tops.
Athletic attire.
Students Cannot Wear:
Sunglasses while inside the building.
Violent language or images.
Slippers.
Hoods overhead in the school building.
Images or language depicting drugs or alcohol (or any illegal item or activity).
Hate speech, profanity, pornography.
Images or language that creates a hostile or intimidating environment based on any protected class or consistently marginalized groups.
Any clothing that reveals visible undergarments.
Swimsuits.
*Additional information about the dress code can be found in your student's agenda*
