Principle 3
The school uses a comprehensive, intentional, and proactive approach to develop character.
Schools committed to character development look at all they are doing through a character lens. They weave character into every aspect of the school culture. Teachers embed the core values into their curriculum, instructional practices, and classroom activities. All sports and school club programs emphasize the core values as well as other areas of school life (the cafeteria, halls, playground, library, and buses). The school also intentionally integrates the core values into the adult culture of the school. Schools that have developed a comprehensive approach to character development have put in place intentional opportunities for students to identify, understand, and effectively manage their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors.
Principle 4
The school creates a caring community.
A school committed to character development has developed an “ethic of caring” that permeates the entire school. What begins as respectful relationships become caring attachments between all members of the school community. All members of a caring community are expected to model responsibility and a commitment to excellence. Caring relationships also foster the desire to learn and the desire to be a good person. Students in a caring community feel safe and therefore more likely to internalize the school’s core values. In a caring school community, the staff has made it a priority to help students form caring attachments to each other; these connections lead students to feel that their school is one big family.

We would love to have the male figues of our students come spend some time at school to provide safety and a positive role model.
*Watch DOGS is not just for males. If we have a mom, aunt, or grandma that wishes to participate, you are welcome.
Oasis Tutoring
Do you know someone 50+ who would be interested in helping a child learn to love reading and learning? Oasis Intergenerational Tutoring pairs volunteers ages 50+ with children in grades K-3 to work one-on-one each week as their tutors, mentors and friends. They can tutor one child or several, on a one-on-one basis each week throughout the school year. Anyone interested can sign up today by calling 314-995-9506 or visiting https://st-louis.oasisnet.org/tutoring/. Training will be on October 18 from 9:00-1:00 at Central Office.
Counselor's Corner
Hello families!
We are excited to say we are over a month into school and we are loving it! Students are settled in and are feeling good about the school year. During the month of September we were able to serve many students and families with our counseling services. It is a joy to share in the celebrations and an honor to hear their challenges. Counseling is a balance of both.
In the classrooms during September, we learned about feelings and ways to express feelings and notice other people's feelings.
We will have educational opportunities in the month of October (bully prevention month) and there is an ongoing need to remind students about the risks and consequences of bullying behaviors here at Robertsville Elementary. Parents, we can use your help to connect school and home by making sure to let us know if you hear about bullying. Please let your child know they can report bullying to any trusted adult at school or at home and give them the clear message that it is never okay to bully others. Thank you for helping us make our school a safe, respectful, and caring place where everyone can learn.
In October, we will also be celebrating Red Ribbon Week on October 23rd-27th. This year's theme is “Be Kind To Your Mind. Live Drug Free”. The students will be watching videos throughout the week, having discussions, and learning more about making healthy and safe choices. We will be celebrating with many upcoming contests such as student art, essays, skits, videos, door decorating, etc. Contest winners will be announced on Friday October 27th. On Halloween, students will be allowed to wear school appropriate Halloween outfits. Please note, students are not allowed to wear face paint or masks at school.
If the counseling department can be of any assistance to you or your child, please contact us and let us know how we can help.
Best,
Taylor Kolley
