Carver's Weekly Update
Week of Monday, December 12, 2022
Congratulations to our Music Teacher, Mrs. Welch!!!
Congratulations to Mrs. Welch, Carver’s Music teacher, on the grant that she was recently awarded from the SC Arts Commission and the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA). Mrs. Welch plans to purchase a set of tone chimes to use with her fifth grade classes. She also plans to purchase ukulele resources and recorders to be used with her fourth and fifth grade classes. We are very excited about the grant and the positive impact it will have on music education for our students.

A Snapshot of STEAM Learning at Carver!
Holiday STEAM Activities taking place in Fourth Grade!
Fourth Grade Students from Mrs. Korb's and Ms. Bryant's classes made silent jingle bells to tie in with their sound units. They also made packages that kept cookies from breaking when dropped, standing trees, and sleighs this past week. All of these STEAM activities tied into their science/math curriculum.
The students in Mrs. Ward's Kindergarten Class worked on beginning sounds, reading, measuring, addition, fine motor, shapes, counting, and decorating skills to solve the mystery of the list gingerbread man. They found him after following all of their clues. He left them cookies!
Fourth grade students created panflutes in music class (with Mrs. Welch) to wrap up a unit on pitch and sound. Fourth graders have also been learning about sound properties in their science classes this quarter.
