REFLECTION
A man would always feel pain in his heart whenever he sees her sister who had done him wrong. It was always like that for many years until he had a near fatal heart attack. He reflected deeply about what happened to him until he finally decided to forgive his sister.
What will liberate us from hatred and negative emotion? It's forgiveness and love. The moment we truly forgive and love every form of hatred and negativity disappears in our hearts. We become free, and we exude nothing but positive aura to our fellowmen. But human as we are, we from time to time succumb to hatred, thus we allow it to control us instead of us controlling it.
What is the cure for hatred? It's love, forgiveness, and humility; these three can conquer hatred. And it can free us from emotions that bring nothing to us but disgust and negativity. This could even result in the disruption of our day hence we will not be able to function properly.
In our gospel reading Jesus tells us to love our enemies, to do good to those who hate us, to bless those who curse us, to pray for those who mistreat us (Luke 6:27-28). Difficult as it may seem; nonetheless if we want to be free from the enslavement of hatred and negative emotions, we have to follow what Jesus is telling us.
It’s only through forgiveness that we would be free from hatred. It’s only through the way of love that we could become true followers of Jesus. There’s no other way but the way of love and forgiveness.
Would you be willing to forgive those who’ve done you wrong? - Marino J. Dasmarinas
FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Parents/Guardians,
During this past week I have been visiting a school in the Monterey Diocese conducting their WCEA Accrediation.
Our School Board met last Tuesday and we were informed that the Molly's Night has changed its date. As soon as we have a new date we will let you know.
I wish to thank the Athletic Board for organizing the Crab Feed this year. It was a wonderful night. Much time and work was placed into the organization of such a night. All proceeds benefit the children in the sports program.
The re-enrollment period begins on March 1st at 1:00pm and ends on March 15th. I would ask that everyone please complete the online re-enrollment form during this time frame. A $50 late fee will apply after March 15th. If you plan on not returning please email me principal@ssfallsoulsschool.org.
As I indicated in last newsletter there has been an increase in tuition. I am adding that information here. Tuition has increased due to the salary increase of 4% percent for teachers and staff. Medical insurance has also increased. To meet a balanced budget we have had to increase tuition by 5%, and this is very conservative. Expenses to run a school are becoming higher each year. We work fervently to manage our finances and to provide a high quality education for our students. Below please find the new tuition and fee schedule.
Progress reports are available today. You can access them on Schoolspeak. If there are any concerns your child’s teacher will contact you.
God Bless,
Vincent Riener

MS. J's JOURNAL
“In this century, the mass media have come to rival parents, school, and religion as the most influential institution in children's lives.” - Media and Values Magazine
I continue to am hear our young students, some as young as kindergarten, talking about playing violent video games, including Call of Duty, at home. Call of Duty games are first person shooter games that are known for blood and profanity. Why in the world is a five-year-old playing such a game? Needless to say, many of these same children are hurting each other at recess because they are playing live versions of these games on the yard. In their minds it is just make believe and they are just playing.
The resurgence of superheroes in movies and on television also exposes young children to content that is not always appropriate. The “Bang”, “Oof”, and “Pow” of the old animated Batman series is a far cry from the digital effects in today’s films. Modern action sequences are much more realistic and, in most cases, more violent. Young students want to act out their favorite scenes at school and often end up hurting themselves or their classmates.
As a school, the teachers work with students to play appropriately, keep their hands to themselves, and talk out conflicts. Children are repeatedly told that there is no play-fighting at school. We have prohibited the play of any active-shooter type games on laptops during recesses and at extended care. We cannot, however, control what students do outside of school, and their viewing habits and computer use at home sets the tone for their behavior at school.
I would like to pass along a resource that might be a valuable tool in helping parents research media choices that are appropriate for their children’s age and maturity level. It is called Common Sense Media (https://www.commonsensemedia.org/) and has detailed book, movie, and game reviews along with information on websites, apps, and answers to parent questions about media and children.
I have shared this resource before, but I think it is worth repeating. In these days of digital everything, parents need tools to supervise their children’s media exposure, be it on television, on screen, or online. I hope you will find this helpful.
All the best,
Miss J

BOX TOPS
Box Tops for Education was started by General Mills in California back in 1996, after the company decided they wanted to create a program to help support education and benefit America’s schools. All Souls has benefitted from this program over the years, receiving sports equipment, microscopes, and a variety of other educational items.
You can help by clipping the Box Tops off approved products you already have in your pantry. You don't need to clip the actual product UPC — just the Box Tops logo will do. From frozen foods to produce and household cleaning products, there are literally hundreds of opportunities to help, and each Box Top is worth 10 cents. Doesn't sound like a lot, but it adds up fast.
There are so many participating companies! Participating companies and product lines include General Mills, Green Giant, Totino's, Pillsbury, Old El Paso, Ziploc, Hefty, Juicy Juice, Betty Crocker and many more. For a full list of eligible items check the Box Tops for Education website at https://www.boxtops4education.com/earn .
