LHS TIGER TALK
February 2, 2024
LHS Parents,
As we navigate through the winter months, it is always a prime time for sickness to occur. Per our school nurse, a Gastrointestinal Virus has been noted in high numbers at LHS this week. This is most likely Norovirus. A very common GI bug causing vomiting, diarrhea and abdominal pain. A fever is NOT typically seen with this type of infection. Because of the high numbers of this virus that we are seeing, we ask that if your student is exhibiting vomiting or diarrhea the night before or the morning of a school day that they remain home until they are V/D free for a full 24 hours. This guideline also applies if the nurse sends your student home during the school day for vomiting, diarrhea and GI symptoms. Please be aware that alcohol based hand rubs (hand sanitizers) are not typically effective in stopping the spread of this virus. Handwashing with soap and warm water for 20 seconds after using the restroom, before and after eating, and before touching your hands to your face is recommended. We also highly discourage the sharing of food, drinks, water bottles or cosmetic products. We see this often at lunch and will discourage it as much as we can.
Secondly, we just want to send out a reminder that if a student needs to take ANY medications during the school day (prescription or over-the-counter) those medications MUST be brought to the nurse by an adult in their original bottle, labeled with the student’s name, and accompanied by a permission to dispense form. These forms can be printed from the district website or sent home with the student from the nurse’s office. The only acceptable medications that students may carry with them are epinephrine auto-injectors (i.e. epi-pens) for food allergies, asthma inhalers and diabetes supplies- with proper documentation. Absolutely no other medications can be carried with a student during the school day with their personal belongings.
I appreciate your assistance in helping keep our students safe and healthy.

INFORMATION REGARDING FEBRUARY 27
We will pause from our normal schedule on Tuesday, February 27 for career and college activities.
Freshmen will participate in the second day of Freshman Career Connect: A Day in Their Shoes. Students can spend the day at work with a family member, neighbor or other trusted adult. The hope is that students will gain a better understanding of the world or work. Students and their family members set this up on their own. Freshmen will be off-site all day.
For helpful information on how to prepare for a job shadow, review these two links.
Job Shadow Student Guide from Shippensberg University
We trust that it will be a very meaningful day. Freshmen should complete this brief form once they've decided on the activity that will be most meaningful for them. Feel free to contact your school counselor with any questions. We are happy to help!
Sophomores will take the PreACT which offers an early experience with ACT test items and provides a predicted ACT score. The PreACT is designed for high school sophomores and is a multiple-choice exam that familiarizes students with the ACT. This paper-based test features questions in four subject areas: English/language arts, math, reading, and science, and is approximately two hours long.
Students should bring a calculator and wood pencils
Report to LHS by 7:40 a.m. and go to the assigned testing room
Cell phones must be powered off and left in a bag and cannot be accessed until all test materials are collected
May bring water/snack (have a designated area where they can access them during their break)
Students don’t need a photo ID for the PreACT
Students will be dismissed home once testing is complete around 11:30, unless you have been notified of accommodations
Juniors will take the state-funded ACT, a college and career readiness test. This administration is a real ACT that can be used for college entrance purposes. This link provides practice test information. This link provides important test information.
There will be no classes held. Sophomores and Juniors need to report to their testing room by 7:45 a.m. and will be dismissed after testing, around 11:30 a.m., unless previously notified of extended time.
Seniors will have a fantastic opportunity for the members of the class of 2024 on Tuesday, February 27. Through a partnership with The Clermont County Chamber of Commerce, LHS seniors will be participating in a Speed Mentoring Program at the Oasis Conference Center (902 Loveland-Miamiville Rd.) that morning. Students will meet with some of the best area professionals to learn strategies for success with interviewing, resume development and networking.
This flyer will offer specific insights into making the most of this opportunity. Please read this information carefully. Gift cards will be awarded to students whom the panelists feel ask the most insightful or creative questions. Plan ahead now!
This is a required event for all seniors, unless taking an off-site synchronous CCP course or involved in a non-flexible internship experience. Please plan on arriving between 7:15am and 7:30am. Attendance will be taken and a light breakfast will be provided. The activities for the day will conclude at 10:45am and you will have the rest of the day to use for homework.
We trust that this will be a meaningful and beneficial experience for all students. Please don't hesitate to contact your student's counselor with any questions.
Important Information Regarding Attendance
If your student needs to leave early for an appointment, please send in a note with your student or email Jill McCarthy at mccartji@lovelandschools.org in advance of the appointment. Students should take the note to the attendance office when they arrive in the morning to get a pass to leave class at the appropriate time. We understand that emergencies come up, but emailing and sending in notes for appointments ahead of time ensures the least disruption to the school day. In addition, when your student is seen by a medical professional, please make sure a note from the physician is brought in following the appointment so the absence can be medically documented and excused. If you have any questions regarding attendance, please email Tina Warden (attendance) at wardenti@lovelandschools.org. Questions regarding early release for appointments, please email Jill McCarthy (receptionist) at mccartji@lovelandschools.org. We appreciate your cooperation!
You're invited to the 14th Annual Tiger Ball!!
The Tiger Ball is one of the Loveland Athletic Boosters' biggest fundraising events of the year and supports our student athletes grades 7-12.
The night will be cocktail style with a speakeasy theme and will include an online silent auction, a reverse raffle (every ticket is a winner!), Cops and Gangsters (think Heads or Tails in Roaring 20's style), drinks, "mob-style" heavy appetizers, and a dance floor for flappers and Fellas to move and shake! So put on those flapper dresses and relive the roaring 20's!
New this year (and completely optional), is our pre-event Bootleggers Pub Crawl! Help us find the moonshine that's being smuggled for Rich "ICEMAN" Bryant and his posse. Steal the moonshine and bring it to the Tiger Ball for your reward.
The event will be held on March 2, 2024, from 6:30 - 11 PM, with the bootleggers pub crawl (optional) starting at 5pm.
