It is fabulous to see all our tamariki back this term along with some new faces to our school and community; we do hope you had an enjoyable time with your lovelies. Our staff have been working through the non-contact time planning and preparing for Term 3 along with attending Professional Development. We are truly fortunate to have a great team of dedicated committed professionals here at IPS.

We know that some of our whanau have had tough events happen over the break and offered assistance where we can. If your whanau has been going through tough times over the break, we extend our thoughts and prayers to you all and please do let us know if there is any way in which we can assist you through these tough times. Life deals some tough blows at times.

New Enrolments:

We had nineteen enrolments on Monday, which was like a a start of year influx. The new students and whanau are a welcome addition to our team here at IPS and we are grateful for the positive participation and easy transition everyone has made. Full School Assembly & Powhiri for all new staff, students and families will be held Monday 29 July 11.30am.

We know we have twenty new entrants still to come in this year, which is pretty exciting. We are in deep conversations with the Ministry of Education with regard to class spaces and staffing to accommodate our growing numbers. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we do this. Please be assured we are working very hard behind the scenes to provide the best teaching and learning environments for all Staff, students, Whanau and wider community.

Looking ahead, if you know of people coming into our area over the next little while or even the Dec/Jan break, please let us know as we are beginning to plan for our 2020 structure. All we need are names, year groups or dates of birth and this will assist us with placements, classes and class sizes.

Kia ora Whanau and Caregivers

We are delighted to welcome Mr Michael Bucksmith as Associate Principal, working alongside Mrs Vicki Ritchie and myself as Senior Leaders of IPS. Michael has a wealth of experience in various aspects of leadership, teaching and learning. Michael's personable demeanor together with a calm, professional, humorous ability to make connections is truly valued and appreciate already in his short time with us thus far.

Vicki, Michael and I as Senior Leaders are spending valuable time listening to the hopes, dreams and aspirations of all 41 staff here at IPS. We have been humbled by the positive conversations and thoughtful ideas to celebrate and strengthen our IPS culture, teaching and learning here at IPS. we will be following up on conversations, wish list and tweaks to our systems through a google survey.

We are also gather student voice in various forms throughout the school. We are designing a survey form to send out to whanau over the next couple of weeks and are also holding a whanau hui Tuesday 3 September here at IPS at 1730. Venue to be advised.

BoT News:

Property – Mr Harland has been busy through the break installing our REACH poles around 'our Emma's Buddy Bench'. The hand prints are from all students and staff who were here in Term 1. Thank you to Ms Brooke Gibson for coordinating this project, they look fabulous.

The hall has been upgraded and turned into two class spaces. Mrs Boyd and Mrs Krook's classes have joined together and are working out of the hall. Our Panitahi Team have moved into their classes and are enjoying their spaces. Thank you sop much to all Staff who worked tirelessly to ensure the new spaces developed mid year are full of student learning, bright and inviting places to be.

Our driveway had some remedial work undertaken by Higgins, which has been much appreciated as a temporary measure until a more permanent solution can be applied

A new cover over the walkway of Puke Haupapa will be completed by the end of the year. Design work for six additional classrooms is near the end stages and then the project will go out to tender along with similar project in another school.

Design plans are also underway for an upgrade of the toilets adjacent to Moa iti and an archgola type cover over the entrance way from the car park to the hall.

We are still in the process of investigating our water leak in the Panitahi Block and are hopeful this will be rectified by the end of the year.

Our new Digital Devices have around to strengthen and enhance the teaching and learning process here at IPS. Many, many thanks to the outgoing Board for their commitment to providing up to date resources. We have an additional 3D printing to utilize and compliment creative design ideas from our young akōnga. Thank you to Mr Harland and Matthew Harland who spent a considerable time unpacking and assembling the TVs and mobile stands. Work was also undertaken in setting up chrome casting capability for all staff to the devices. Further behind the scenes work in setting up new chromebooks and ipads - exciting times indeed.

All students in Years 3 to 8 will finish school at 12.30pm next Tuesday 30 July for our Learning Conferences. Please inform the office if your child needs to remind at school, although supervision is limited.

Each interview is 15 minutes long. Please ensure you arrive on time to each interview.

Booking your interviews

The booking website will close Tuesday, 30 July at 10:00 AM.

1. Go to parentinterviews.co.nz, enter the event code KL7HXULW and click Go.
2. Enter your name, email address and the names of the students you wish to make bookings for.
3. Select the teachers you'd like to book by ticking the checkbox beside their name, and then click the Book Interviews button at the bottom of the page.
4. Using the timetable, click the Book button beside the time slot you'd like to book for the teacher. You'll be asked to confirm your booking.
5. Continue until you've booked all teachers.

Once you're finished, you can view your timetable by clicking My Interviews at the top of the page. You can also print a PDF timetable to take to your interviews.

Before your interviews, you'll receive an email reminder containing your timetable. If you need to cancel any interviews, you can do so by following the link in the email you received when you first signed up.

We need more clear 1.25 litre and 2.25 litre bottles. If you have an interest in assisting with environmental projects please contact Mrs Ritchie who would love some support. We have a lot of projects and the Enviro Crew work most Tuesday and Thursday lunchtimes on projects. The bottle house will be worked on from 11 am - 2.45 pm Tuesday 9 April. If you are keen you are welcome to join the group at any time you can throughout this time.

Matthew & Kaitlin Tee participated in the New Plymouth Performing Arts Competitions during the school holidays in the Classical Guitar section. Kaitlin received a Very Highly Commended for her two solo pieces in the under 12yrs section. Matthew received 1st place in both the under 12yrs and the under 14yrs solo pieces. Matthew also received 1st place in the under 14yrs ensemble. Congratulations Matthew and Kaitlin on your achievements.

Also happy birthday to Floyd Armstrong, Charlotte Gillett, Quinn Muir, Malek Ferguson, Zarnielle Daymond, Eli West, Fjay Lomax, Caitlin Roscoe, Hannah Williams, Tahlia Marriner, James Boyd, Nyrelle Ritchie, Christopher Davy, Brooklyn Tubby, Isabella Pepperell, Chloe Johns, Ava Baeyertz, Cameron Catlin-Maybury, Connor Catlin-Maybury and Darien Lowcay who celebrated have celebrated their birthdays over the last three weeks.

We are super excited to have delivered some pieces of plumbing which Whaea Emma Burleigh, turns into Pipe Phones for our young tamariki to assist them hearing themselves read. Thank you so much Whaea Emma, together with Darren Baxter and Lee Sutton from Chester's Plumbing, New Plymouth. Supporting junior literacy development at IPS and making a difference in the life of our akōnga.

School Absence: If your child is absent from school for any reason, please leave a message on the school answer phone or use the School App. Please state name and reason why the child is away. Thank you.

Scholastic Bookclub: Orders for Issue 5 are due back to the school office by Friday 2nd August.

On Thursday 8 August, the School Council are running a ‘Crazy Day’ for KidsCan. Students can dress up however they like e.g. fairy, superman, sunday best, minion, opposite gender, pirate etc. The money raised will be spent on essentials like food, shoes, raincoats and healthcare products for kids who need them.

NZ Police recently launched a new non emergency number, 105. We’ve done this to make it easier to get hold of us in the event of non-urgent situations or ‘Things which have Already Happened’, which don’t require Police assistance immediately.

You can call us on 105 for all non emergencies, or you can go online at 105.police.govt.nz to report things like:

- Lost property

- Theft for a public place or car

- Intentional property damage

- Or to get an update or add info to a previous report

In the event of an emergency, always call 111 - Things that are Happening Now.
