Classes receive lessons from Mrs. Hockaday to support social emotional learning. Currently all K-3 classes have finished their units of lessons from the Too Good for Violence curriculum on how to be a peacemaker. All students will have a lesson with me that focuses on empathy, respect, and students being a HEART (Helpful, Encouraging, Accepting, Respectful, Trustworthy) friend. I am finishing my mid-year checkins with the students to see how school is going. This Mid-Year Minute Meeting is a brief discussion including: how is your school year going, do you have friends at school, do you feel safe at school, do you know what to do if someone is being a bully, and is there anything they want to talk to me about. This is also the time of year where I offer small groups to provide additional support to some students in the areas of self-discipline, self-esteem, friendship, and school success. Teachers and parents can make referrals for small group support.
